michael
So what do we think about this canoeist that went missing and then appeared 5 years later with no memory of where he's been? It's all a bit Harold Bishop! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7124119.stm Now arrested on suspicion of fraud: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tees/7128196.stm Sounds fairly straightforward now he's been arrested and the picture of him in Panama has turned out, I preferred the idea of him wandering the sea bed with Spongebob for 5 years
Ark
So what do we think ... I think I don't care. It's just tabloid gumpf.
SUPRASUZUKI
Straight forward insurance fraud. The sort of thing we've all thought about, but never had the balls to try. Or is it just me.......

Carl_S
I agree with Mr Darwin's 80-year-old aunt Margaret Burns, from Blackhall Colliery, County Durham, when she said: "We don't know the truth of the story, but I think we will if we wait a bit." RedM
Set out to sea and wound up in sh1t creek without a paddle. If it was me I'd have not come back from Panama. What's that all about?
Rob
Maybe their plan was scuppered when the Panamanian Govt said, "British records say you are dead, we don't tend to let dead people re-patriate here, can you pop back and get it sorted?" I reckon he's been living in the loft for the last 5 years. How big was this insurance payout? I wonder if he had "other commitments" he needed to escape? Kranz
My best guess is that he was in some deep financial bother a few years back, so hatched a plan with the mrs to buy a large life insurance policy that would sufficiently cover the mortgage & debt, plus a little extra for the 'widow'. Plan was enacted so it looks like he had a tragic accident, and she joined him abroad when the dust had settled..... But they've been rumbled in Panama and either blackmailed or had his life threatened by the mob or whatever...... and hey presto, he's back and conveniently can't remember where he's been for 5 years
