Gerry
Going to look at an Impreza in the next day or so... Getting rid of my "work" ST200 Mondeo (estate) and no longer need an estate now, but still need four doors. I've been torturing myself for months trying to decide on what to replace it with, but I want: 4 Doors & boot - just in case I need to move family about. Something "quick" - quicker than the ST but not Supe TT quick. No too boy-racer - may use it for work sometimes. Looked at Evo's (too expensive to maintain) Skylines (only like the ones I can't afford) Fast Fords (boring) Integra's & Civic R's (just don't really turn me on) Found a 2005 UK WRX in shiney black, nice sexy bonnet scoop but modest stock spoiler. Not as fast as most, but 0-60 5.6 so bit better than my ST. Intend not to mod it in any way as I would prefer to spend my limited dosh on the Supe & Smart car Anybody got any (informed) views.... ? turbonut
You dont want a boy racer car but your considering getting a scooby??? Actually, the sportwagon is not too bad in WRX guise, they did an STi version in Japan, think a few grey imports may be knocking around but I don't think any were sold directly by franchised garages over here, tho I could be wrong. Rogue (Mr Hanky's better half ) had a WRX sportwagon, you could drop Mark a PM and get some feedback. enjoy your searching Linda x

Ark
New Age Scoobs (which an 05 is) aren't too chavvy. Just be aware that they have paint thinner than a huff of bad breath, so they get stone chips really easily. And the bodywork is easily dented. 4WD can munch the gearbox/clutch in no time if you try to do the quoted 0-60 very often. Oh, and the stock WRX suspension has a habit of leaking, so check whether they have been replaced at any time, or whether there's still a warranty on them. And you'll be lucky to get 25mpg, just so you know. Otherwise they are cracking cars.

G I had one of these mate. There a GOOD car. Was realy impressed with it. Handels superb. Is an easy car to drive, too easy Running costs are not that bad either. If its like mine you will have the gold speckels in the paint, momo steering wheel and bucket seats with honeycombe fabric as standard = Think they were on the 03 above. Mine was on a 53 plate. Servicing is a bit expencive - mine cam upto the 30k service and needed the cambelts changing. It was in the region of £600 for the belts and service. Also needed 4 new tyers and tax. Thats my only reason for getting shot - deepely regret it too but i was only 22 at the time. Take one for a test drive, im shure youll like it
Gerry
Looks nice... As I said, I think it's looks are modest, most "non car" folk would not know it was quick, which is what I'm after.

Safely Insured
In my opinion, avoid. Imprezas have chocolate engines (especially when modified) and demand high insurance premiums as they are a very high risk car... Also, everyone I know who has had one has either got bored as they are too predictable or has got fed up of doing engine re-builds. Ollie Sky Insurance Did wonder about insurance, what I need is a good, low cost insurance company that will do me an extra good deal as I'm very old and sensible and live in the country Re mechanical, I know the risks, but am determined to keep it stock and not play with it, and regarding getting bored, they can't be too bad as they are so hugely popular, ie Japshow at Castle Combe, 5 Supes, 4 Liners, 50,000 Scoobys sits and awaits e-mailed insurance proposal form

I never had ONE issue with mine. I did over 20k miles in her. It was in Group 19 inshurance and was paying 1500 a year fully comp on her @ 22 years old. An 05 plate will still have a year or so manufacturers warrenty left (dpending when registered) and also any DECENT garage you get one from (a new ish car) should throw in a 12 month warrenty?? Just speaking from experience, as i have owned one not so long ago.
