SilverSoop
Hi all, just wondering, for all those who have got 6 speed manual TT's that is, does anyone find the 6 speed box clunky and sometimes hard to get in gear because i do. My supe does have a triple plate clutch in her though if that matters at all to the way the gearbox responds to the clutch but does anyone else find this?? Muffleman
Yep. Might be worth having the gearbox fluid changed but the 6speed is a little agricultural. On the upside, it takes an awful lot of power

tooquicktostop
Yes as Matt says both my 6 speeds are clunky, especially when cold, but they take a lot of power and have a very good reputation for lasting, it is normal and nothing to worry about, a fluid change would help

But sometimes when im driving her, she didnt want to go into gear and it ended in a CRUNCH so i guess ive got to be more patient because my n/a used to feel silky smooth in gear changes compared to the supe im driving now. Having said that, she has been sitting around a while waiting to be sold so that probably didnt help matters...
Muffleman
'Crunching' is different, 3rd gear ? Sounds like a synchromesh might be on its way.
tooquicktostop
You said clunky in the first post, then a crunch in the last, My gearboxes do not crunch into gear, that maybe worth an inspection as the clutch my not be engaging as it should ?? No i dont think that its not engaging i just think that maybe im too impatient when i change and it sometimes ends in a crunch. For example, when you change but take your foot off the clutch pedal too early when you're changing gear, it crunches. But mine only seems to crunch when it goes into third though.... Ive got 3 months warantee on the car anyway but if it goes after those 3 months, whats the price of a new gearbox plus fitting? Any ideas?

I would take it back now if you can, a new box IF you can get one will be around 2K, but they are VERY hard to come by

Homer
It's probably just you being a bit soon to release the clutch. Drop by if you want me to take a quick look at it, I've driven tons of 6 speeds so know how they should feel

Sean1933
If its just one gear then it leans towards it not being your driving style. Its hard to say without driving it, however im with Matt on this one, probably your syncromesh
Homer
As it's a 98, it should have the V161 right? I remember ready somewhere they have a stronger syncho on them. Sorry Shane, completely forgot to call you today, only remembered when seeing this thread!
