wow i thought this was only me, i must have it pretty bad?

all my things in my room (even supra bits) have to be neatley lined up and laid out

bed has to be neat with no creases in the sheets

when someone moves something i either try to get it of them and put it back

if i sit on a chair and the legs feel funny i move unit it feels rite, must of had it worse when i was younger then.

also duno if this is anything along the lines of it, but sometimes when i ask for something i get the 1st and last words muddled, if we get takeaway and i want a fillet burger i mite say billet furger:Dstuff like that.

reading this has made me feel Soooooo much better - cheers fella ;)

Now I think about it yes...

-tins have to have labels facing fowards in the cupboard and are stacked according to content type i.e. all soups in one row

-have to physically check (or insist that H. does) that the cars are looked every night

-car keys have to be in the bedroom with me within sight

-hangers have to be hung facing the back for the wardrobe

-will periodically put the CDs in alphabetical order

-have to check all doors and windows are locked multiple times

-habitually re-arrange furniture, cupboard contents etc..

I think I need therapy, didn't realise I had so many:blink:

Has anyone ever held their hand under a tap to check if it's actually really turned on even though you've tightened it to the point of breaking and also stared at it trying to see if there is water coming out because, although you know the tap is off, your damned OCD is preventing you from moving away from the tap so you just keep looking at it and looking at it and looking at it some more with the complete lack of water still not enough to convince you that it's off and then you tear yourself away but become gripped by such panic that you go back and check it all over again?

...or was that just me?

wow. That's pretty bad. Are you aware of these things as you're doing them, or do you only notice when someone else points it out? At what point does it become serious enough to require therapy?

I don't think I've got OCD, but then some of the things on this thread seems fairly sensible to me - like putting your tinned soup all in one place or checking your wallet a couple of times before leaving the house.

My most obsessive thing was when leaving my previous car - I always walked round the car and looked at the headlights to see they were off after pressing the switch, as they didn't go off with the ignition like the Supra.

Seriously ? My Mum did this. She had a thing about curtains as well, as in the pleats had to be just right.

My sister in law washes her feet an 'unusual' amount of times a day. Its milder forms are extremely common so it seems.

I admit to more than bogies as posted earlier, I have a thing about Acad / UG...If I'm working in someone elses drawing / model and the layers are'nt in a logical order, I'll spend ages sorting them out. It annoys some people, but others just accept its what I do.

Hmm!! Had seen this thread but not read it until tonight. It's got me thinking about my OCD's!

My main ones are............car bodywork (any dents or scratches have to be repaired almost immediately) I also had one about cleaning cars recently. I would probably do all 3, twice a week at one point!:(

At the moment my Christmas lights one is going wild! I put our lights up on Sunday and by Sunday night found that some of the bulbs 3 out of 300 bulbs were not working and I have therefore taken the lot down and bought a new set!!

Plus!! They all have to be perfectly evenly distributed accross the front of the house......;)

I couldn't do any kind of trade for a living as I would be checking and double checking my work and therefore be terrible from a productivity point of view. At least with selling you either get the work or you don't!!:D

if im writing an official or important email (sometimes even unimportant but long ones) ill read it over 4 or 5 times. not particulary checking any spelling or anything, just reading it. then ill write a bit more then read it again. and then again. then change some bits arround then read again. and again. it can take me an hour to write a email of a couple of hundred words sometimes. Forunately it doesnt seem to happen with forum posts.

My ex had a thing about groups of 3. I cant think of an example but nothing could be 3. she couldnt eat 3 peanuts for example.

Totally aware that what I'm doing make no sense to anyone even me.

I used to be the same with the front door just before going to bed. I'd push it shut again and again even though it was already shut and very locked. Even knowing that wasn't enough and I'd keep pushing and checking the locks. I'd then move to the top of the stairs and stare at the locks for many, many minutes just in case they'd become unlocked or were about to!

I still suffer from this particular checking curse although to a lesser degree. I can still be found by our front door just before going to bed looking at the four locks over and over, seeing that they are in place, knowing that all is well but unable to just walk away until I'm convinced.

I had therapy for clinical depression during my teens and early twenties and often found that the OCD symptoms were alleviated by certain anti-depressants. However, I never had specific counselling for OCD.

In the same way that I eventually convinced my counsellor that I didn't want to use anti-depressants any longer and that I would will myself better I managed to convince myself that the OCD stuff wasn't necessary.

At this point I'd say that it's worked. To a point. I still check things and still suffer from depression but not as bad as I used to.

just to point out guys that most of you have not described OCD but have in fact described a mild form of autism - we all have it to some extent:d - the 1 about the taps, redM THATS OCD!

Spot on with the autism. More prevalent in males.

Thanks for the capitals BTW:D

Thanks RedM. Very frank and interesting. It's nice to know how the brain works (and when things do wrong!). I even bought the book "Psychology for Dummies" :)

The thing with the brain going wrong is that you can't leave it with a bloke who'll charge you £45 per hour plus VAT to fix it. ;)
