Questions about laptops and batteries.

Only applies to your lappy

Mine charges until full when being used. Once full, the power light is on but the charging light isn't

I can run my laptop without the battery in. I can even take the battery out while using the lappy.

Dunno if its an issue with your lappy or not.

1. Why doesn't the battery charge when you are plugged into the mains but using the computer?

It should.

2. Why can't you run a laptop from the mains without a battery in?

You can.

3. Do these only apply to my Thinkpad T20?

They shouldn't.

Does this help...

Could just need the IBM specific power management stuff installing.

1. I'm guessing it does charge but very slowly. It charged a battery to 65% in about 2.5 hours and an extra 1% took about ten minutes. I'm leaving it a few hours to see if it reached 100%

2. I can run the laptop without a battery in. I erm...*sheesh* plugged it in and when the little battery light (then thought to be the power light) didn't come on assumed that the batt needed to be in.

It is. Charged to 100% this morning. Ran flat in about 90 minutes.

I've read that they often need 'cycling' a few times (running right down and then charging back up as the cells will need to 'come alive') however the second full charge has only gone up to 69% after three hours!

I think I've read that there is a battery life software glitch that sometimes give an incorrect reading.

Any ideas?
