Sheefa
Hi guys, Well, this is it. The time is near and I'm about to see if a good 6 weeks of preparation are really about to pay divideneds. Passed all my interviews so far and got an excellent recommendation from the PROAC course I went on, but now is the make or break time! I'll be going to Cranwell, Lincolnshire for 4 days from 2nd December for the following tests to assess my suitability as a RAF Regiment Officer: Aptitude Tests Interview Group Leadership Exercise Group Planning Problem Exercise Individual Planning Problem Exercise Group Debate/Discussion Command Situation Leadership Exercise It's all I've ever wanted to do and hopefully the dream will continue to move one final step closer reality. If successful at the above, I will be offered a provisional acceptance and comission of service. All that is left to do is the Physical and Medical assessment after that, hard but not unattainable. Wish me luck all. Update to follow on Thursday the 6th once it's all over! Any last minute tips/hints and advice from other Officers on the board or people that have been through the process would be most appreciated! heckler
watch out on the leader-less exercise... they dont tell you that your actually doing it. you think you just doing an practice exercise. And, as part of selection, you have to do the RAF fitness test - there are set levels, IIRC level 9.10 for the bleep test, 15 press ups in a minute, and 36 sit ups in a minute. Its is advisable to go way beyond these levels as it all counts. the last Reg't chap I met when I went to OASC got 14.9 on the bleep test Hearing test is a PITA as its done next to the runway! Thats all I can really remember from when I went though that caused a few problems
Sheefa
Thanks guys. Great tip Si - although now you have to go back for Part B which is fitness and meds. They recently changed the structure of OASC in September which is kind of good, but stretches things out a bit longer! I'm cracking level 13 on bleep but aiming for 14. Lbm
I applied to join as aircrew and did tests at Biggin Hill, back in 1985. I was too thick and too short...other than that, I did well. Best of luck chap
dangerous brain
Did you call my mate si? He recently finished in the RAF but I am sure he would be OK to chat to you on his mobile. I assure you again he is the man to speak to about that place. He spent quite a while there on the course to evaluate a candidates abilities to get through officer training. Main thing to it all though is think simple and logical. They may tell you that they got a school of ten year olds in and they all passed the tests easily. Thats not far from the truth. Just because they give you 10 items to do a task doesn't mean you need to use all of them to achieve it.

Sheefa
Thanks again all. Brian - never got a chance to speak to Si mate, but I've had a Flt Leiut helping me out with some brilliant advice. I did try and get hold of him a few times too. Sheefa
Well guys, it went really well and I'm feeling confident. Some of the tasks like Individual Planning and Command Situation were pretty hard and time sensitive, but was a great time overall and met some brilliant people. I got a good few laughs out of the OASC Board Officers too during the interview, group discussion exercises etc too so hopefully a little mild humour and enthusiasm kept me in the selection pot! Should get the result of whether I've been selected or not for either RAF Regiment or RAF Weapon Systems Officer (Navigator) in 3 weeks! Scary. Would just like to thank Supraayf (Andy), Dangerous Brain (Brian), Heckler (Si) and M45sey for their support. Greg

I know a few navs went pilot after a while. Congratulations mate. It is mostly about attitude.
Sheefa
Thanks mate. Got brilliant aptitude scores too, 148, which was good for Pilot and all air branches. Shame I'm too old and my eye sight isn't perfect to go for pilot which is what I always wanted hey!

Sheefa
Thanks all. Age limit for Pilot is 23!! Yep, 23! Age limit for RAF Regiment and Weapon Systems Officer (WSO - Navigator) is 25. I'm 25 now so this really is my last shot at it all. Should fine out the result in 3 weeks hopefully.
