Rayman
I want an x box 360, whats the difference between them all, the core, elite etc Are they better value for money than the pS3 would you say? Which one do i want? Also how do they hook up to the internet for online play, can i hook it up to my router or does it use the pC phone cable. Thanks
Lukeyboy2k
I'm not really up on prices anymore, but I would not purchase the Core - it doesn't come with a hard drive, wireless controllers, or Hi-Def cable IIRC. I think these are common to the premium and elite packages. You should be able to connect to your router to play online either with a cable, or a wireless bridge (~£50). I cannot comment on the quality of the PS3, but I understand there are less "good" games available for it at present. The Xbox 360 is notorious for malfunctioning. I've just returned mine to get it repaired. Microsoft offer a free repair service because they know they fooked up. I don't know if this problem has been addressed with the newer consoles, but it wouldn't put me off buying one.
Matt H
Neither you want a Wii, But if you really want to waste you money then get the PS3, X box is on its way out. Plus who wants to play a computer game using the worst controller ever made?!
Whitesupraboy2
xboxs come with 3 yrs warranty due to the overheating issue. Although this issue is now meant to be fixed. The 3 systems Core / arcade - wouldnt even consider, no hdd no HDMI, wired controller Pro (v2 now) - 20Gb hard drive and HDMI slot, wireless controller Elite - all of Pro plus 120Gb hdd, is black. Ive heard it comes with 12 months gold membership but cant confirm I got a Pro as 20Gb is plenty of space. I got mine for £199 though cant find it that cheap anymore cheapest ive found is £220. If the elite was less then £40 more id get that if it comes with 12 months xbox live membership as that will cost you £40 for the year. Yes you can run the xbox through your router, I have 2 running through mine.
RedM
I was going to ask this very same question but decided to look it up on the net. All this info is on the Xbox site. Amazing huh?
squiffy
dude, i wouldnt touch the core or premium. they have serious reliability issues! it will be in for repairs every few months. my brother is on his 4th, im on my second, my cousins are on their 3rd and 4th!!! one of them just binned it and bought an elite. all due to either the red light problem or just not being able to read discs anymore. i havent heard any problems with the elite yet. still i would rather have the 360 then the ps3

Ive been looking too but the info on here is much better, stuff like overheating issues arnt going to be up on the xbox site plus stuff like the hard drive and cable info, see i would have just gone for the core, but i now know it sounds like the cable and hardrive are pretty essential. I asked on here because i know a lot of people already have them and thus learning from their experience. Have you got your sarcastic head on today RED? This reliability thing is kinda worrying me now tho. Gotta go for now, keep the comments coming despite what red says.
RedM
Have you got your sarcastic head on today RED? No but if you want some excellent info there's far more on xbox specific forums. Hell, even AVforums has enough info and opinion to help one come to a decision. By not asking on here I decided that I may as well just buy the Elite version. edd_t
Now having both Xbox 360 premium, 360 Elite and a PS3 (dont ask me why its too complicated) id stick with the elite. My xbox 360 premium has given me no problems at all and ive had it since launch. you just have to be sensible and keep them ventilated. the Elite is basicly just better than that. then the PS3 is good, but games are still letting it down. I also prefer the 360 control pad. if i were you id base your decision on games, as both have games that will only come out on their system, like Halo, Forza, PGR for xbox, or Gran Turismo for PS3. Thorin
XBox360 Arcade (no hard disk) Xbox360 Xbox360 Elite (bigger hard disk, and HDMI) They're no "core" or "premium" any more are they? Must admit I've seen quite a few side by side comparison's with the 360 and the PS3 and to my eye the 360 graphics always look sharper. Does seem to be some better games out for the 360 too... but then the PS3 will have Gran Turismo 5.

Premium still exists and reason its V2 is it comes with the HDMI slot now which to me means you want the elite coz its got a black case

The Restorer
Don't forget the Elite has the HDMI port which allows 1080p hi-def. The premium etc can do 1080p but you need the HDMI connection out of the Xbox to get it to the tele. There are also rumours that the elite has better graphics heatsink design which was the most common failure on the xbox. I have the premium, but if the elite had been available at the time would have bought that. Don't have a hi-def tv yet, but still, you never know. Seb
Bear in mind that if you've got home cinema and want both HDMI and 5.1 surround sound, you can't do this with the Premium unless you crack open the video/optical out connector casing as you can't physically plug both leads in together. If you're in this position just buy an Elite as the necessary Microsoft cable costs £30 while an Elite is £50 more than a Premium.
Rollin_Thunder
buy the ELITE as it will have less chance of breaking & over heating on you & so giving you the RROD (red ring of death) take it from me, i have had 10 premiums break down since there 1st release & many others on my friend list are up to there 6th or 8th premium since release, due to over heating problems & shoddy repairs

Jake
I bought an Elite, despite WSB telling me not to. He was right though. I've basically paid an extra £100 for a 120gig hard disk I don't need and to have a black xbox. About the reliability problem, that's all in the past. They have fixed the problem and now give a 3 year guarantee - so no worries there. The Elite doesn't come with 12 months XBox Live Gold membership, only one month. Rubbish! When I joined AV forums I got loads of help from my very first post. In fact, we even got channel Five to get something at Emley Moor fixed.
