PPI = Proton pump inhibitors, I had them for a little while earlier this year as I suffer with IBS and acid reflux too. Those things are lethal, have you read what side effects those buggers have??

I came off those a bit quick and now take 2 x Ranitidine a day. They only reduce acid rather then stop it completely. After all the stomach creates acid for a reason. :D

I also have 1 actimel every morning and they do work a treat.

Whhhhatttt !

I have no side effects - I dont think although my hair is falling out - hang on it was before (phew) lol

well see all I know is I can sleep without battery acid burning holes in me :D

then again Im getting old; do you think it might be the fags and black coffee:tongue:

Well I have to admit to fags and (white) coffee too but I wouldn't take those again. If your happy enjoy mate.

The most common Side effects are diarrhoea, feeling or being sick, constipation, wind, abdominal pain and headaches. Very rarely they can also cause allergic reactions, itching, dizziness, swollen ankles, muscle and joint pain, blurred vision, depression and a dry mouth. A problem that can occur with long-term use of proton pump inhibitors is stomach infections. Stomach acid helps to kill microscopic organisms (mircrobes) such as bacteria in the stomach. Because proton pump inhibitors completely stop acid production using them can lead to a growth of microbes in the stomach.

Now hold on a cotton picking minute.....

If those acid pump inhibitor tablets say that stomach acid kills off bacteria, and these expensive but very fashionable little drinkies contain 'good' bacteria, then surely stomach acid will kill off the bacteria and you'll be no better off than if you didn't drink it??

Or am I missing something? Are Actimel acid resistant???

I know that some Lactobacillus Acidophillus (LOL at Linda's AcidoPHALLUS comment!! Something on your mind Linda??) in tablet form are killed off by stomach acid (cos my mum says so & she's a teacher).
