Markie
Hello all, Not sure whether this is linked to my new alarm install, but I have a few problems which I need some advice on. Firstly the car when hitting about 4.5-5k boost is starting to act like the RLTC is cutting in when it is not. Second turbo seems to come in fine but after the revs rise a bit more you start to see it splutter and all. Could this be down to the FCD being unplugged or something, as I have not checked the wires etc since the alarm installer has been down there. Or could it be linked to the wire they used which they spliced off the No: 6 cylinder injector which I have been told would be to monitor the RPM for remote start? Also the defi gauges are not working. The defi control unit has power, but the two gauges running off it have no light and do not work at all. Just wondering if there are any tests on where to start looking into this problem? Sorry for it to be a long post, just goto get this sorted now as not been able to use for car properly for a few weeks. Thanks in advance, Markie. Kev.O
With regards to the defi's not working, it sounds like the lead at the control unit has unplugged. Might be worth checking it? If these problems have only occured since the installation of the new alarm, I'd recommend checking everything the engineer done
Markie
I have actually tried the plugs on the defi control unit. All seemed fine. Unpluged and plugged back in. Still nothing. Yeah going to check the ECU side of the wiring when I get a chnace, just wanted some heads up if anyone could, as wondering whether just soldering the RPM monitor onto the injector wire would actually cause any abnormalitys. I can't see how, but I am not into my electronics as some on here are who could hopefully let me know how it would work.
Markie
Anyone got any ideas please? I do think my first test is going to be to remove that wire from the injector and see how she goes first, but just after some fall back options. Ian C
Sounds like an ignition misfire perhaps, can you limit the boost above 4000rpm using the right foot and try aroun 0.5bar and 0.8bar? If it's smooth then it'll be the spark blowing out - plug gaps, heat grades, coil packs/connectors etc. -Ian
Markie
Its fine up until about 5k, possible a little lower. Also no problems with her since the alarm fitting.
Markie
OK, update... Took her out tonight to do a bit more investigating. Cut the lead from the alarm to the No: 6 injector so that was out of the equasion. Car revs upto 7+K RPM's fine when standing still, however planting the right foot she will get to about 4.5-5k RPM's and start spluttering, cutting out etc. I managed to take a few glances at my Blitz boost controller which was saying approx 1.27 BAR. So I am assuming this rules out the FCD being unplugged? Second turbo comes online but its the 5k+ RPMs where its going a bit odd. Really lost now. And starting to hate the damn thing even though its done nothing wrong. I am going to reset the ECU tomorrow and test that, but cant see it being that as if I have had the battery disconnected before and she start playing up with the second turbo comming online it sorts itself out and learns after a few boots and a mile or two. Run her for at least 10-15 miles and a lot of boots on the loud pedal and it still remains the same. Just out of interest. changed the diff and gearbox oil the same time alarm was put in. Surely its not any of this in some weird way? Defi gauges still not working, but thats probably just a loose wire I am hoping.
Ian C
Still sounds like a high boost misfire. Did you try going up the rev range at half a bar of boost? Revving at standstill puts no real load on the engine so only points more to the spark failing when on boost. -Ian
Markie
Will try that along with the ECU reset Ian. Thanks... Just cant understand why its happened. It was fine when I parked her in the garage before the work
