Chris and Alana
Hi guy's, have any of you owned, driven or had a spirited drive with a Subaru Impreza P1? Does anyone know how tuneable they are?
bromy
I'd have thought that most would not be modified as most people would want to protect their future value, same goes for the 22b
DrivingTheDream
Jap version Type-R's are cheaper and quicker to 60 I think.
Tones
Type R are a bit cheaper and have dccd so way much more fun to drive, the P1 has abs which the Type R doesnt, very tuneable but of course it costs, one of the best guys in the uk is http://www.andyforrestperformance.co.uk he mapped my old scooby type r before, hes got a 650bhp one that has qtr mile of 8.9sec and top speed of 215mph so yeh theyure tuneable :D great cars for flying round town but pain in the arse on long distance motorway trips
hadyn
You just murdered one on the roll or something mate???
dangerous brain
I had a spirited drive in the rain against one. Very very fast up to ridiculous speeds. There was nothing in it up to very silly speeds. Sure after 150 you'd have it but situations that allow that are few and far between.
Tones
I rarely drove mine over 100mph, thats where a supra tt would murder one, flying around backroads though the scoobs are great fun, 1st 2nd and 3rd gear acceleration is the best fun
grahamc
a mate of mine at work had one... stunning car, goes well0 - 80mph is rather quick, but as said earlier type r's are generally a little quicker.

Tom
I took one out for a test drive once and was massivly dissapointed, the driving position felt pretty poor, it felt slow and did seem a bit dull, but that's poobaru's for ya would pick an evo or celica gt4 over one any day

Tom
ur the first person ive ever heard say that to be honest, u thought it felt slow?? first and second gear the acceleration is mental Honestly yes about 4 months ago I drove a wxz sti and I did enjoy that a lot more and it felt quicker than the p1 I drove, prehaps the p1 I was test driving had a boost problem I don't know but I got back in to my stock TT staright after the p1 and it felt so much quicker, I did have really high hopes for it
dangerous brain
Maybe the one that made a limpet of itself on my BPU motor was modified then but it had no trouble keeping up. In fact at one point I thought he was going to have a pop at overtaking me.
jaymdee
I had a ride in one back in 2000 when it was brand new and couldn't believe the acceleration. Not sure my Supra even feels as quick. Absolutely glued to the road too.

Markie
We have an Imprezza STi now. 07 model. And I will admit, its good fun but my Supra is just twice as fast. No contest at all. Maybe it will be a bit closer with the prodrive mod which hikes it to 320BHP.
Homer
Back when I first went BPU (about 3.5 years ago) I went for an extended spirited drive with some workmates. One had an STI 8 PPP, the other a very nice P1. Both were stock aside from the aftermarket exhausts. The supra easily kept up with them on the twisties and even with the smaller brakes there were no problems in braking zones. I had no problems overtaking either of them (safely) on the straight. There's a thread on scoobynet about it. This was a 1 hour drive along the famous "13 bends of death" road between Reading and Oxford. One of the best driving roads in the area, but deadly if you push things too far! I expect it would be a very different story if the roads were wet or the weather cold... Edited to add, I really like the P1, looks and performance wise. As with most of the lighter weight Scoobies, they're phenomenal off the mark but lack the power at motorway speeds. But thats not what they're about, they're a very quick car below 80 and easy to get the most out of in that zone, but they're no refined cruiser like the supra. Markie
I find the STi with the C Diff a bitch in the wet on the understeer. Not played with taking the C diff off the AUTO setting in the wet yet though. Are the P1 cars prone to a bit of understeer in the wet also? Not played with taking the C diff off the AUTO setting in the wet yet though. Are the P1 cars prone to a bit of understeer in the wet also? The owner of the STI8 says it has a lot of understeer, the P1 seems to be less prone to it but can be made to oversteer on lift off. Almost every scooby I've been in has the understeer tendancy, but their stock suspension set up is "safe".
Ark
The engines are fine, as long as you use plenty of high-octane fuel, or get it re-mapped. The weak point is the reliance on some bizarre in-tank octane booster that Prodrive thought would be the next wave of technology. They were wrong as it happens.
