Thorin
I sensed a disturbance in the force, as if millions of voices suddenly breathed a sigh of relief.
RedM
What a load of f**king sh!te. Came home. Wouldn't connect. When it did the wired pc flashed up an ip conflict message. The wireless laptop then wouldn't connect. Then it found a NETGEAR default connection on the wrong channel (11) despite the router saying it was set for 7! Much faffing around ensued and the laptop finally found a 100% WPA encrypted doodah on channel 7 I got onto the forum and it lost it again. How the flip can the router transmit two networks at the same time? How secure is that? Anyway I've wasted too much time on this. Back to our old router and both connect via ethernet cable. Last question: How long can an ethernet cable be for a home connection? I reckon if I can use 5-10 metres then I can sit on the sofa and use it still. Damn, I am p155ed off. Technology should just work and if it doesn't then don't make it the NEXT BIG THING! GRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
carl0s
Up to 100mtrs. Any longer and you need to use a repeater (hub/switch) in between.
RedM
Cheers fella. Where would be the best place to get a cable of about 20-25 metres?
carl0s
A small techie computer supplier. Will cost peanuts. Dixons/PC World will be £20 - £40, technie place will be ~£7 - £10. Or mail order from Scan if you don't mind waiting - £4-ish. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Products.ASP?CatID=5&FilterCategories=61&Thumbnails=yes
