Gordon F
Hi John If you have a J-Spec, this is normally a problem caused during the kph to mph conversion. Pete Betts is the man to talk to. He is on this list as TRL Performance
Need4Speed
Apologies if I've upset a protocol here... I've only just discovered this site. Hello to all. I've had my Supra for three months and bought it on a whim - what a pleasant surprise, Porsche beater for the price of a Focus. Incidentally it appears to be producing excess boost - up to 1.5 bar but misses above 1.2 bar. The car is a 93 JZA80. No doubt I'll find out more in the next few months. I think you should get the overboosting sorted before you worry too much about the minor details....engines and turbo's being rather expensive. What is the spec of your car, modications etc
Need4Speed
Hi GavinL The boost seems to run riot a little although it appears to misfire & dump the excess boost above 1.2bar. My feeling is that the ECU has been modded in a haphazard way just to deliver top end power (around 400bhp). I only run it on Optimax so I'm in general agreement with the thread about fuel. The rest of the car? It's an Auto but what model I don't yet know -Bilsteins with rising rate springs, usual exhaust mods but the cat(s) still fitted. 9J & 10J Stern split rims. It also has the active spoiler and a couple of additional instruments from Greddy. No doubt there's more to it that I've yet to discover. Until 3 months ago I didn't even notice these cars - in fact it was a Skyline I was looking at when I saw this Supra. I'm track testing soon! Guest Martin F
Errrr if your boosting to 1.5bar with one cat in, then it sounds like you have a serious problem with your wastegate. Do you know if it's even connected ? I wouldn't take that car on the track in that condition, one WOT at the wrong moment and it will be 'Where's the warranty booklet'. FYI....it is extremely hard to modify the Supra's ECU and you could probably count the amount of people that can on one hand and that's worldwide. The normal procedure is to modify signals going into and out of the ECU in the hope that you can achieve close to the ideal results. I think it would be in your best interest to get the car into one of the guys who know how to tune and modify these cars.
Terminator
Even on a one cat into 3" system I was only getting 1.1 bar and that was considered high. As Martin says get it checked over and keep off the loud pedal before it goes bang. A track day may be most unwise until you know what you are dealing with.
