AndrewOW
My sister and I have a budget of around £400 to buy a laptop for our mum for Xmas. As I'm an Apple 'fanboi', I'm finding it really difficult to settle on anything that isn't a Mac, but I do know there are plenty of Window's laptops out there for the right price. I've had a look at Acer's, which I've been recommended, and have found a couple of decent ones that have been knocked down in price, but if there's anyone that may know of a well 'specced' machine that they'd personally recommend, then I just need to be pointed in the right direction. Ideally it should come with wireless, maybe bluetooth, decent amount of RAM, decent sized hard disk, preferably Windows XP (not Vista) and at a real push, Microsoft Office. She's going to use it mainly for the internet, and a small amount of business type work. She's not bothered about games etc. Any help would be really appreciated. dangerous brain
I have two acers now and they are decent enough machines and are specced quite well for the price usually. Pop into PCworld and take a look at various models and see the quality of different makes and then buy on t'internet.

jamesmark
This is an excellent laptop, also has a proper keyboard on it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-Satellite-Widescreen-Entertainment-Core2Duo/dp/B000Y89AKE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1195855223&sr=1-
AndrewOW
This might be of help. So I've committed some sort of re...post then? Oh the shame! I did have a good look through that thread, and I'd already had a look at the Dell 1521 and the Inspiron too, which seems like a good laptop for the money. The 17" Toshiba with the full keyboard looks good too. That wouldn't be so different from the layout she's used to, so could be an option. I'll have a look at the PCWorld/Curry's websites too, and maybe pop to PCWorld to have a look at the options etc. Thanks so far
AndrewOW
Well after settling on a Dell Inspiron 1520, I decided not to go for it as the delivery charge is far too expensive (£60). I then went for an Advent 8215p at PC World. Sold out, end of line We then went to Comet and found a bargain of an Acer Aspire 5720 which has lots of nice things attached. Even a Crystal Eye camera, for £399. Anyone wanting a cheap laptop, I don't think you can go far wrong with one of these: Acer Aspire
