Changing cam belt - remove spark plugs

Recommended Posts

Am going to start on replacing my cam belt this weekend.

Is it wise to remove the spark plugs? as you need to rotate the cam pullies?

With the plugs in wont it make it difficult for the pistons to move up and down if the plugs are left in?

Cheers

Yes, otherwise you'll get compression in the cylinders.

Not done a cambelt on a supra before, but you should be able to turn it with the plugs in, will just be a lot harder!

That what I thaught. I need to replace them anyway - have a set of Iridiums ready to go in. So ill whip them out and change the cam belt and drive belt and add in the new ones as part of the belt change

You dont have to take the plugs out, it just makes it easier to turn the engine. One of the easiest cam belts ive ever done, you'll have a hell of a job removing the crank bolt

ahhhh haaaaa - I have got a trick up my selave for removing the crank bolt :p

Air gun and if that fails then......................... wait and see :)

Before you take the cambelt off, loosen the crank bolt. get a mate to stamp on the brake pedal and put her in gear :)
