cookci
Does anyone know how much it'd be to get insured for one day on the nurburgring? Im thinking of taking my celica there next year
SteveR
Have a look at http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/insurance.html ... but note that £250/day for the cover and that £5k excess is typical. EDIT to say - about a year back there was some talk on that site (probably on the forum bit - register and have a search) about a particular, unamed company coming into that market and offering members of the site insurance for the Ring at about £80~£120 per day with a much lower excess. Worth having a poke around to see if that ever happened.
Ark
If you've got your regular insurance with someone like Keith Michaels, they'll add track day cover, including the ring, for £50 per day.
AJI
just ring round a number of UK insurers and tell them what you intend to do, they should be able to sort you out with single/multi day track cover.... but shop around as the prices vary hugely. Try to get at least 5 or 6 different quotes. To be honest, if you keep your wits about you and drive within your limits, specific cover should not really be required. As long as you don't cause any accidents.... if you are involved in one then you won't have to pay... works similar to a normal road situation. I always record each lap I do on a hidden camera so that I always have proof of my actions. I know this is against the track policy to be recording laps... but screw them if it means I can justify myself if somebody writes off my car through their own negligence. They charge enough money for barrier repair and track closure as it is.
SteveR
I agree with everything that Aron has just said, and haven't got specific insurance when I've been there (though Sky reckoned I was covered - thankfully I havent' needed to test that theory) but what is always in the back of my mind is; what do you do if someone else smacks into you? I'm sure it was this site where someone earlier this year said another car lost it whilst trying to drive round the outside of them mid-bend, and ended up oversteering into them. AFAIK, the track policy is for incidents where blame is difficult to aportion (i.e. one word against another) then it's 'knock for knock', no? The police are unlikely to get involved as there are no injuries and I guess even if you did get them involved they can't do much more than shrug their shoulders, assuming no witnesses? AJI
you can call the police to any incident on the track.... there are usually plenty of witnesses who will come forward. And sometimes it is easy to aportion blame... but as correctly mentioned sometimes it can be a knock for knock situation. But this can happen at any point during your travels in europe.... only problem is that you are on a track... so its slightly different. My advice is to always involve the police so you can document the situation. The N'Ring, I have found out, have their own squad of police cars who have been to many many accidents on the track and they are very experienced in determining who's at fault. For peace of mind it would be best to get track cover.... but I have always trusted my ability to get me out of developing situations. May go wrong at some point in the future but that is purely my risk that I take and accept. The same rules apply to a normal road.... if you are hit from behind its always the guy behind who is at fault. If you are struck from the inside (ie. on the right hand side of the car) then its the guy who struck you again who is at fault... due to the overtaking rule which follows the normal road overtaking laws of passing only on the left.... otherwise it is classed as a dangerous undertaking maneouvre. But you have to be careful in the corners not to cut people up. It may all sound a bit scary but as long as you are aware of what is around you and what is approaching you (use your mirrors), then you'll be fine.
