Nic
This week I've mostly been trashing my clutch..... again! My clutch has started to slip accelarating in 3rd and 4th as the 2nd turbo comes on line. I replaced the clutch 20,000km ago with a standard Toyota one, a combination of more power, HK driving conditions (lots of gear changes, stoping and starting) and ME seems to have lead to the short life of the clutch. Which uprated clutch would you recommend I go for? cheers
Paul Whiffin
Hi Nic, Definately go for an RPS Max series with street disc, more than up to the job, drives like a std clutch with a just a little heavier pedal pressure. They also do a rather nice lightened flywheel as well... E-mail me if your interested. Cheers Paul
Nic
Paul Thanks for the recommendation, what country is the company from, do you have a web address where I can check out the product? Does anyone have a TRD clutch fitted, or know what they are like? cheers
Paul Whiffin
Yee, http://www.turboclutch.com they are a USA based company, I can have the parts sent direct to you in HK if needed or sent to me and then sent to your UK address. Apparently the RPS one is the exact same clutch as the TRD one but massively cheaper. Cheers Paul
Adam W
You might also want to check out Clutchmasters clutches - I have been doing loads of research on a clutch upgrade for my Mk3T, and from what I've read on Supraforums etc, the RPS is good . . . but the CM is better. More expensive though All IMHO, not knocking Pauls product at all, I'm sure it's a good clutch, just pointing out that there are other options available. Theres a good list of what's out there at http://www.suprastore.com - I wouldn't recommend that you buy from them though! btw, Paul is right in saying that the RPS clutch is identical to the TRD clutch. At least it is for the Mk3.
Paul Whiffin
I've been using a Max series with std plate for about 18000 miles with no problems at all, more than up to the job in hand. I've still got it in with the single turbo as well, we shall soon see if it holds up to that kind of abuse, not to sure it will, might have to go for a 6 puck job. randy
Hi! Nic, I have a TRD clutch - single disc/pressure plate fitted just 2 months back and I have done quite a bit of thrashing on it. It runs perfectly smooth and feels a little harder than standard but grips like amazing. Since you are in Hongkong I suggest you buy it from NewZealand as I bought it from TRD NZ. The TRD dealer there is http://www.trdshop.com/shop/index.asp the contact person is Bruce Sollitt!
Nic
Hi Randy Thanks for the information, I've already ordered a new TRD twin plate clutch from TRD HK, it should be here in 3 weeks time, I just hope the current one can hold out long enough. cheers
