JohnC
Just wondering, how do the people with upgraded turbos (eg singles) get through their MOT's with no cats??
uk-rich
the way i do it is my mate is the mot man ! ,i suspect other people have a similar set up or there is always the back hander
Dazzi
^ if that fails, put the cats or 1st cat back in
uk-rich
^ if that fails, put the cats or 1st cat back in on a single, not that easy, unless you have the exhaust modded, to allow for the bolting in of the cat

Glosphil
Ok ressurecting this thread rather than make yet another. Only just found out you cant have the cat on the single setup, and dont think my MOT guy will do it without it. Has anybody got theirs set up with a cat when they have MOT? how did you do it? I thought most single guys had a decat pipe in their exhaust which they replace with the secon cat come MOT time?
Glosphil
Aparently the pipes in the single kits replace the decat pipes so I've just been told. I thought the same as you until now.
juanchan
Aparently the pipes in the single kits replace the decat pipes so I've just been told. I thought the same as you until now. Surely it depends on the exhaust you put on? If you buy a straight through exhaust with a replaceable section where the second cat sits, you just swap them come MOT time. Glosphil
The downpipe and mid pipe replace the decatt pipes so it mates right up to the cat back exhaust, as far as I can make out....

I've not really looked into it in much detail, but I know that some singles pass MOTs with a second cat put back in for the occasion. I'd have thought someone with more k-now how than myslef would have been along by now too! Alternatively, could someone like Envy not make you an exhaust with a removeable decat section? Glosphil
I guess thats an option, but I guess it would be the midpipe or downpipe that needs modding, dunno.
mplavery
As most of you know M.O.T testers do the mot through the computers now to help agaist fraud (bent M.O.T) I have been told by my best mate eermm friend .....well some1 i know said it is even more easier to put cars through MOT's even if there not legal., i know some1 who's cars did not even touch the MOT ramp and got a pass..i mean so i heard lol. Its not a prob for my car with decats. The only problem i have is that the car is to low to somtimes get on the ramp or in the workshop. + when they test the brakes on the rollers the bumper would hit the floor so it has to be road tested for the brakes.... edge
Could a "MOT MAP" be loaded for the stanalone ecu users? Thought A well mapped ecu would get the car through ??
R Black
Going single is'nt cheap so i would've thouhgt one of those racing CATs imported by Nic would've been perfect??? MOT testers can get you through the emissions test by sticking the pipe up another vehicle:eyebrows:
Glosphil
Its not a case of an ECU map, my car would pass without catts anyway im told, but its a legal requirement to have the cat in regardless.

Are you sure Phil? I thought it was only a legal requirement on cars from a certain age. It is a legal requirement to pass emissions test though obviously. adam bell
if you get a freindly mot mate to do it,the way the way they get round it is test the car for everything else then when it comes to the emissions put the co2 sensor in the brand new ford focus etc parked next to the supra.. Glosphil
Nic, I think they gotta be prior to '93 or '91 not to need a CATT. And Mwilkinson, im not in Hants? lol
