Conrad
My girlfriend loves to Ski, although I've never done it myself. I thought I'd take her away in Feb for her birthday for a long weekend (3-4 days). I wanted to keep it a surprise and get it booked up but I haven't a clue where to take her! There's so many resorts that I just don't know where is best. I'm a total newb when it comes to this... We're already booked up for a 2 week holiday in the States in May so budget is a little tight. Easy Jet flights etc... Not fussed which country, just somewhere inexpensive but popular....
juanchan
I'd recommend Tignes and Val d'Isere. Essentially one resort, it's big enough to cater for beginners but still challenge those who've been before. I've only been there once, but I'd love to go back now I'm a bit more competent. Also, the 3 Valleys are pretty good, but I'm not sure how well they cater for people who've not tried before.
heartworm
I love Kuhtai in Austria, its gorgeous, and ski straight from the door of the hotel, perfect if your wanting to go straightonto the slopes, maybe a bit challenging for a new skier though :S
bigcol
Why not take a "beforehand" trip to Manchester (no im not taking the piss) and go to chill factor, its a new indoor ski village with snow boarding, ski-ing luge etc with real snow and an alpine village with shops and bars the whole lot, i think the website is http://www.chillfactore.com if not google it and it will come up. have fun:d
BigDino
If money is tight i think you'll find Bulgaria cheap with some fantastic slopes.

Conrad
Blackie - I think you and me operate from the same page so best give that place a miss. Thanks for all the info guys, I'm not that fussed if it's difficult for begginers as I have total confidence I'd be good at it! Well snowboarding anyway as i used to skateboard... Anymore advice appreciated
juanchan
I'd go with the idea of getting to an indoor slope before you go. My mate did 4 hours of lessons (might have only been 2 - it wasn't a lot!), then came snowboarding with us back in March. We had him going down black runs by the end of the week and he was loving it! If you can get a lesson or two in to be told the basics, you'll soon pick up exactly what you're supposed to do in a week on the slopes. It's the one holiday I can't do without at the moment

My mate just spent the last year in Whistler boarding so I was gonna get him to help me out too (plus borrow all his gear!) What site should I be looking at for booking hotels and flights? The ones I'm looking at seem overpriced! (I hope!)

Conrad
Well I haven't really, I was just trying to find hotels in Tignes as suggested but having a little trouble getting one just for the weekend. They all want £400+ per person for a weeks stay. Skiing looks expensive!!
hoff
I went to Andalo (i think) in Italy when I was in school. It seemed a very good resort to me. But ski, could I bollocks:(
BigDino
http://www.bulgariaski.com/ My advice would be to book each part i'e travel/accomodation separately as you usually find it a cheaper option, I sometimes take a full day browsing the tinternet doing this and most times if not all you can save yourself quite a bit and on some occasions a rather large bit. Thats a linky to Bulgaria if you like the look of it or you could compare prices. Have fun.
Steviekid
We went to Les Arc in January and I really enjoyed it. Remember to budget for lift passes, equipment hire and lessons though. Also, the pubs are really, really expensive.

The ones I'm looking at seem overpriced! (I hope!) One of our other mates is a qualified snowboard instructor, and whilst he didn't hang around walking us through what we should be doing, he encouraged us to throw ourselves down the red run if it was a choice of that or the blue, and by the end of the week we were practically pros Not sure where you'd look for a weekend trip unfortunately. I found our holiday last season in one of the holiday supermarket places in town. It might be cheaper to book with a hotel direct and get flights with flybe/bemybaby etc separately.
