imi-7
Here is the problem. After using the electric shower yesterday I came out and smelt a 'fishy' kinda smell, and when I came to turn the shower main switch Off the switch panel was red hot next to the red on/off switch!! Anyway, I opened up the panel and all wires are there and connected - red, black and earth. Anyhow, I tried the shower on again and heard a crackling noise where one of the black wires connects into the switch panel- turned out the connection was loose and thus making the panel over this area red hot. So after tightening the loose connection safely, I tried the shower once again. The crackling sound has gone but the switch cover over the black wire connector is still warm (though not as hot as before), Any ideas on what could be wrong? I will try to post a pic in the morning. Should I be worried ? Cheers in advance. P.S I live in an apartment only 4 yrs old.
Rob
Stop using Norwegian shower gel? God knows why a faulty earth or switched live in your power shower would make you smell fishy.
absz
seems as your amp rating on the fuse trip is too small. i had the samr problem were the fuse trip was melting. had to replace with separate fuse box for shower unit.
imi-7
how much was the cost of installing a new fuse box for the shower unit?

Shadow Beast
the fishy smell is what happens when you dont wash your crotch enough!!, no seriously the fishy smell is what happens when electrics get hot, overloading and the such like. post a pic up so i can see what you are talking about and from there i will try to give you a better idea as to what is happening? what size is the shower in Kilo watts? from that we can check the cable sizing and the fuse rating to see if the wrong size has been installed. as for things getting hot, it is a shower after all and cold water is not nice to shower in!! no seriously again, they take an awfull amount of load when running, all sorts of factors have to factored in like the temp of the room, if it is a 9kw shower, its drawing 3 times as much as your kettle when thats boiling!! so its going to get warm a bit. hope this helps richie
cheekymonkey
Probably worth mentioning... id you're in ANY doubt about fiddling with something that by it's very nature, mixes water and electricity, AND you stand in the thing with bare feet... you should probably call in a professional
edge
What power is the shower (KW). Does the switch on the wall with the light have a chunky switch? Shouldnt look as flimsey as a light switch and should take more effort to switch on/off. If it still smells and feels warm the cable may be dirty from where it had been getting warm/burnt berfore. The cable in the switch should be quite chunky. Any pics?

gaz1
think they are 8.5kw,
Shadow Beast
if it is 8.5kw then working it out your going to be looking at a 40 amp circuit breaker. i would of said that the switch should be one of the pull cord types prob with a neon light? have you got pics yet? richie

imi-7
Right chaps, here are the pics of the shower isolated on/off switch and the wiring behind it.... The top black wire connection was the one that was loose and got red hot. I have tightened the connection but still the plastic cover still gets warm if the shower has been on for 5-7 mins, but not as hot as before. Not sure what my Shower rating is....how can I check? Thanks again.
Rob
In my limited nollidge, teh top black one would be switched live, the two reds are ring live and the lower black would be neutral. Something nust be amiss in the actual power shower unit if the live cable is overheating. Might be simplest to just replace the shower unit. They're only about £30 aren't they? imi-7
Not sure - what do you reckon Richie?
edge
Switch looks to be wired up ok. and cable looks like 6mm at least. On the bottom of the shower just where your hose connects you sould have a white sticker with black writing and should say 7.5kw or 8.5kw etc. You get 2 years warranty with triton showers. You will also have a 3 digit code on the sticker underneath reading something like F05 etc. If not open the shower up and there will be anothe sticker inside r/h/s. These showers only went upto 9.5kw so your fine as to what size cable you have.
