supradibbs
Am toying with the idea of contacting Dunsfold Aerodrome to see if we could hire it for the day for thise that dont know its where top gear is filmed just outside Guildford. We could host 1/4 mile top speed and track events. It would need to be a massive event get traders sponsers other clubs etc envolved because i would imagine the cost would be high. Am thinking off the scale of santa pod but down south. Whtas your thoughts?
SteveR
Sounds cool. We'd clearly HAVE to try out the track layout* they use on the programme & see what times Supras get. Could even tell Top Gear we're doing it and see if teh Stig wants a go / if they want to put a mention & some clips into the show, you never know... * = one at a time as it's a figure of 8! juanchan
Sounds like a good idea. The only issue with the Santa Pod day was that everyone jumped in saying "hell yes, I'll be there", but as soon as money was needed, everyone backed out. You'd probably need to get some rough figures and an estimated cost per person/car to get people genuinely interested. I'd be up for it though! That worked in the favour of those that did pay though - plenty of access to the strip. But I do take your point Mike
supradibbs
Just think the venue is perfect the top speed challage and trrack event would make a nice change plus we could invite some drift boys over?
Tom S
only thing I see wrong is more distance for some of our Northern members to travel........

Possibly the best £60 I've spent in terms of Supra ownership. And I didn't break anything expensive *touches wood* Just think the venue is perfect the top speed challage and trrack event would make a nice change plus we could invite some drift boys over? Do you have a link to a website that details what is available there in terms of event possibilities? As in, would the track be available if we were using a drag strip? Stevie Boy
I went there for a PistonHeads fund raising event in my mates modded XJR, very tightly regulated site there. Had to do an induction in the morning going through the history of the site etc. As far as i can remember the owner gave the impression it was usually open to thrash days due to TopGear filming regs and Merc/Maclaren arrangements they had and the PistonHeads event was being done solely as a charity fund raising event though some of the guys there had driven there before on a so don't quote me on anything. They even apparently had tight noise regs due to nearby properties though there were some noisey cars there on that day Ferrari with modded exhaust, Ultima, GT3RS and a few noisey Corvettes. I did a top speed run on the strip in the XJR but the was no timing gear so was getting speed reading was from GPS is in the car and was only getting to bout 150 and was running outta road don't think anyone else did much better as the strip available was quite short and a extra bit at the end was coned off. Laps round the Topgear track were only allowed led by a Caterham as the was no safety crew available still fun i suppose but was quite expensive for what was available.
