HID question

Recommended Posts

I have been asked to state from the ebay guy selling them what kit I require for my supra.

Im confused: he gives me the options of H1 H4 or H7.

Which type one is the supra, and what should I ask him for?

Carl

EDIT:

He has just messaged me saying

"HB3 is also know as 9005

HB4 is also know as 9006

according to our databse,

your toyota supra will use HB3 as low beam

and HB4 as high beam"

Can someone clarify what low beam and high beam is?

is it the same as main beam and full beam?

And nothing to do with sidelights.

IF that is right I want the HID on my main bean, and not the high beam (which i would use for flashing at people etc)

So I need HB3 kit.. that right guys?

assuming i have glass headlights, do i need the HB3 or HB4?
for glass headlights you need 9005 for the dipped beam and 9006 for the high beam.

For plastic ones you would need 9005 for both.

ps,

I wish people wouldn't use the term "Main Beam" as to some people that means dipped and to some it means high beam. Causes less confusion if folks stuck to calling them "dipped" and "high beam".

Right, im gonna get a HB3 (9005) kit then. I can use it on my J-specs and transfer it when I uprade.

And it is confusing your right: main/dipped/low beam are the same.

And high, and full beam are the same.

Thanks guys. Can't get that alan partridge sketch out of my mind where he says "there you go: FULL BEAM!" to that guy from south africa. Funny as hell..

There is conflicting advice elsewhere on the site... this was posted by whitesupraboy on the powerbulbs thread:

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=59734&highlight=power+bulbs

"Below is the information you'll need to make sure you get yourself the right bulbs

Bulbs you will need:

Jspec bulbs needed: (apart from facelift sidelights differ)

Dipped Beam - HB3 (9005)

Full Beam - HB3 (9005) The lugs will need to be trimmed

Sidelights - w5w Free with Every Delivery

Fog light - H3

UK spec:

Dipped Beam - HB4 (9006)

Full Beam - HB3 (9005)

Sidelights - w5w Free with every delivery

Fog light - H3"
