Carl_S
I have been asked to state from the ebay guy selling them what kit I require for my supra. Im confused: he gives me the options of H1 H4 or H7. Which type one is the supra, and what should I ask him for? Carl EDIT: He has just messaged me saying "HB3 is also know as 9005 HB4 is also know as 9006 according to our databse, your toyota supra will use HB3 as low beam and HB4 as high beam" Can someone clarify what low beam and high beam is? is it the same as main beam and full beam? And nothing to do with sidelights. IF that is right I want the HID on my main bean, and not the high beam (which i would use for flashing at people etc) So I need HB3 kit.. that right guys? Class One
You need to know if you have Jspec (plastic) or UK Spec (glass) headlamps fitted as they use different bulbs. Then use this button or look in the groub buy section where the club ran a GB on Hids last year. You will find the answer there.
Carl_S
Ahh im glad you mention that class one.. I currently have plastic, but want to upgrade to glass shortly. so i'd rather save my HID kit for when I get the glass. so assuming i have glass headlights, do i need the HB3 or HB4? Matt _Aero top_
HB4 or 9006's
AndyT
And I think Gamer's got two sets for sale.
Jake
assuming i have glass headlights, do i need the HB3 or HB4? for glass headlights you need 9005 for the dipped beam and 9006 for the high beam. For plastic ones you would need 9005 for both. ps, I wish people wouldn't use the term "Main Beam" as to some people that means dipped and to some it means high beam. Causes less confusion if folks stuck to calling them "dipped" and "high beam".

And it is confusing your right: main/dipped/low beam are the same. And high, and full beam are the same. Thanks guys. Can't get that alan partridge sketch out of my mind where he says "there you go: FULL BEAM!" to that guy from south africa. Funny as hell.. supraman.chris
So if i was to buy a set of glass headlights for my j-spec, what bulb shopping list should i need then?
Carl_S
You would need two HB4's (9006) for the full/high beam. The other bulbs you could just nick from your j-spec headlight... that right?
Jake
That would be right if he only wants HIDs in the High Beam. Most folks want HID dipped rather than HID high beam (or both) because Dipped is what you use most of the time.
Carl_S
He asked for a "Bulb shopping list", he didn't say if he has HIDS already or even wants them lol. But yeah, I'm for HIDS in dipped only, makes sense.
supraman.chris
Nah, they are just standard ones i guess. more like candles in the fog really. lol

As this thread is about HIDs I kinda assumed that that was what he was talking about.
Gamer
And I think Gamer's got two sets for sale. I just have the HID kit (6000K) for J Spec fogs left. Brand new still boxed £80 including mainland UK delivery.
Matt _Aero top_
Correct me if i'm wrong guys but having HID lights for the high beam isn't really agood idea anyway as you wouldn't be able to flash your lights coz of the ballasts . Gamer
You can still flash them as they light up brightly for a split second, then they power up as HID's normally do.
Dazzi
You can still flash them as they light up brightly for a split second, then they power up as HID's normally do. tis true as some plank did this the other day, i couldn't see for about 10secs as they were so bright
Matt _Aero top_
Hmm me thinks its time to get some HID's on the high beam and dazzle some tossers who don't turn theres off when driving towards you on country roads .

There is conflicting advice elsewhere on the site... this was posted by whitesupraboy on the powerbulbs thread: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=59734&highlight=power+bulbs "Below is the information you'll need to make sure you get yourself the right bulbs Bulbs you will need: Jspec bulbs needed: (apart from facelift sidelights differ) Dipped Beam - HB3 (9005) Full Beam - HB3 (9005) The lugs will need to be trimmed Sidelights - w5w Free with Every Delivery Fog light - H3 UK spec: Dipped Beam - HB4 (9006) Full Beam - HB3 (9005) Sidelights - w5w Free with every delivery Fog light - H3" Very confused with this now.. anyone, Jake, mods help? Jake
Yes, you're right - I got it the wrong way around. For UK Spec Headlights it should be Dipped Beam = 9006/HB4 High Beam = 9005/HB3 Sorry about that.
Carl_S
Ok, just that I bought the wrong HIDs now, will have to try and get the order changed. Oh well, mistakes like this are easily made.
