Chris Wilson
I won a very dodgy sounding Ebay auction for a 900 quid compressor, despite repeated attempts by e-mail to get the seller to ring me, or send me HIS contact number I got no joy, just 2 vague replies from a Yahoo account. The last one is below with all headers. Now can any of you IT experts tell me, or hazard an eductaed guess whether this came from someone in Wales, UK? From the time sent line I personally think it came from the USA, as it's in Pacific Standard Time. Anything else to be gleaned here? Cheers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Return-path: Received: from th-mail-b0118.gradwell.net ([193.111.201.42]) by schroedinger.zen.co.uk with esmtp (Exim 4.50) id 1ItMuu-0005GF-1l for [email protected]; Sat, 17 Nov 2007 12:37:02 +0000 X-Gradwell-Mailfilter: 2115 not matched X-Envelope-To: [email protected] X-Forwarding-To: [email protected] Delivered-To: [email protected] Received: from n3.bullet.mail.re4.yahoo.com ([206.190.56.22] country=US) by th-mail-b0118.gradwell.net with smtp (Gradwell gwh-smtpd 1.262) id 473ee05e.779e.53 for [email protected]; Sat, 17 Nov 2007 12:36:46 +0000 (envelope-sender ) Received: from [68.142.237.90] by n3.bullet.re4.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 17 Nov 2007 12:36:31 -0000 Received: from [216.252.111.167] by t6.bullet.re3.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 17 Nov 2007 12:36:31 -0000 Received: from [127.0.0.1] by omp102.mail.re3.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 17 Nov 2007 12:36:31 -0000 X-Yahoo-Newman-Property: ymail-5 X-Yahoo-Newman-Id: [email protected] Received: (qmail 80893 invoked by uid 60001); 17 Nov 2007 12:36:31 -0000 DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=s1024; d=yahoo.com; h=X-YMail-OSG:Received:Date:From:Subject:To:In-Reply-To:MIME-Version:Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding:Message-ID; b=FPQEYTNoYNuL55OCuy6EXXZ/x9Gx8nJyh5cYL9RZX9Q52AOvsiC98V0jv2Y6VWN5TiPG+fsPDwZrqrTHf0sT8kO7Uih6Mw2VmtDzBVJCFCY6DSj3jSEAEVqA9WePOzVPOLacQQ2pK9rMM0Boxy0lrJ59FK0YhyDwDxKsT/Rum+g=; X-YMail-OSG: 5uwLQ_8VM1mWc7L2ExMz3HtSqjIT16U20KOzpJZ_hlzTIKWTrMALc32OmUa.beTTh.fSid8QEisdpTayJkLfknObWlY67s5SAREW Received: from [172.130.240.21] by web57306.mail.re1.yahoo.com via HTTP; Sat, 17 Nov 2007 04:36:31 PST Date: Sat, 17 Nov 2007 04:36:31 -0800 (PST) From: "[email protected]" Subject: Re: Compressor To: Chris Wilson In-Reply-To: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="0-1654824515-1195302991=:80654" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Message-ID: X-Zen-Test-Spam-Score: 0 X-Zen-Test-Spam-Bar: (/) X-Originating-Schroedinger-IP: [193.111.201.42] X-Envelope-From: [email protected] X-Envelope-To: [email protected] X-Apparently-To: [email protected] X-Zen-Loop2: 0a15c1b27fedb28398e5998dab8617bf X-Zen-Loop: 33b76cc7a59b7ee0feb7baa714d39e25 X-Zen-Stored: hausdorff.zen.co.uk/1ItMv0-0007dh-21/2007-11-17 12:37:02 hello, the compressor will be available for pick up on Monday.Or we can have it delivered to your address. Nothing is in Wales, but then it wouldnt be. http://www.iplocationfinder.com/location.htm http://ws.arin.net/whois/
CJ
Chris, give it up fella. It's a scam. As my old Dad used to say, if it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

His ADSL is with Zen who peer with Gradwell. I didn't realise that before, we resell Gradwells VoIP solutions, they're rather good.

Pete
I think that's the problem Chris has supplied his number to him, but he's not calling? I know I would call a buyer if they request it.
marbleapple
Has he asked for any money yet? seems rather odd to sell something and then not chase the money. I also noticed on his eBay listing that he has a paypal account. If you clicked to pay (but didn't complete) it would tell you how many transactions he had done via paypal. it would be interesting to know if he has done 0 or many. Have you tried requesting his contact details through the eBay system> he either has to provide a telephone number or a credit card. 50/50 its a telephone number
Chris Wilson
Gradwell is my hosting ISP. How do I request his contacts through the Ebay system? Pete
Ebay will just tell you to email him. I expect there would be privacy issues if they handed out other information about people.
CJ
G...CJ: I know you are right, just want to know the facts, IYSWIM? Thanks, the worlds full of scammers I can understand you wanting to kn ow more Chris but I gave up chasing scammers a long time ago. After getting caught several times, I am now very selective in what I buy and who I buy off. That's a sad indictment of today's culture eh? colsoop
Alarm bells would start ringing for me the second a yahoo account was involved, they are almost always used by scammers

Ebay will then forward you their name, address and phone number. At least, they did when I last did it.

marbleapple
Bloody hell. That's pretty piss poor data protection eh? Nothing to do with Data protection. when you bid you are agreeing to a contract and thus your details are made available to the other contracting party. Here is the link. http://search.ebay.co.uk/ws/search/AdvSearch?sofindtype=10 Just type his user name in. if I remember correctly they will want the item number you have been dealing with. be warned though, when you ask for his info, he will automatically get yours.
