redline Rooster
Hi, I have a UK TT auto and it has the standard traction control fitted. Now it always works and kicks in just in time when the back end decides to get a little "fruity". But sometimes when i switch it off stange things happen! It seems when the cars colder and you switch the TC off the TRC OFF light glows at half brightness and the ( ! ) warning light in the rev guage illuminates at half brightness too. I have not fully tested it too see if the TC is no longer operating when these lights come on like this as i discovered it whilst driving a while ago. Then sometimes you do it and the TRC OFF light glows fully and the ( ! ) warning light is off. I did test it however when it did this and the TC is deactivated! Has anyone else heared, or seen of this happening before!??!? I get this horrible ££££££££££ feeling from my wallet when stuff this occurs!! I'm thinking of taking it in next week to get a diagnostic done any idea how much this is from Toyota - it was about £35 from Honda when i had my Prelude checked a while ago Well cheers for any info! Ian C
Switching the stock trac off should light up a light saying Trac Cont Off and that traction control won't work, so one of those scenarios sounds correct. Any half-lit/dim lights is a bad thing, though, so the other scenario shouldn't be happening. -Ian
Branners
strangely enough my UK spec 6sp has had the strange glowy thing once, I was at Castle Coombe making my way across the grassy car park and decided to turn it off and powerslide my way along, the TC definitely wasnt on even though the thing just glowed. I also have a problem with the lights behind the heater controls. Sometimes they work and sometimes they dont, so it sounds like it might be a lose connection back there somewhere.....I hope. Bobbeh
Hehe so far the only time Ive noticed it kick in was when I was driving down a bumpy road after accelerating, I felt it cut in and slow the car a little. It wasnt too intrusive but enough to tell me that the road was unstable

The UK one just says "TRC" Has anyone done any wiring behind your dash? When I first started trying to use dash lamps for "other things" I got fairly proficient at creating dimly lit blubs in the instrument panel. redline Rooster
Hi, hmmmmmm well I'm hoping it'll only be a wiring problem too! , Like today the car had been in the sun all day, so i started it, pressed the TRC OFF button, and the light came on full brightness, and the TC was deactivated. but this morning that car was obvioulsy cold from the night and it did the half brightness stuff!!! hmmmm I hate problems like this! oh well i'll be looking at it this weekend so i'll let you lot you know how i got on!!! failing that it may be a full on Diagnostic session to see if its more serious!!! Keith C
Hmm, nope, sorry - it's terminal. I'm afraid you're going to have to pull the fuse on the stock TC and fit something that actually does the job it claims to.

Neil Sandham
The illumination on the heater controls being tempremental is a common fault on UK specs (Mr Toyota garage said anyway). I took the dash off to ensure it was tight. No problems since. The dimmly lit TRC light does sound as though there is something not quite right with the traction control system (or connections) but it is not realted to the dashboard illumination). Cheers Neil. redline Rooster
Hi, yeah i got a feeling its more than just bad connection on bulbs, coz sometimes the (!) warning light comes on half brightness as well as the TRC OFF light!! oh well it disengages the TC anyway so thats all that matters, as long as the fun button works thats all that matters!!! So, I've heard quite a few people saying the stock TC is pants on the supras, but so far i've found it keeps that backend nicley in form several times now on wet slippery roundabouts and once coming over a rise in the road under heavy throttle! - i mean i though this system was quite good - but it is my first car with TC. If this is the case whats the Race Logic stuff like then coz thats supposed to be be the knackers?!?!!?!? Cheers Roosting on the redline
Terminator
It is the dogs dangly bits. If you think the stock system is OK then RLTC will knock your little cotton socks off. It is an intelligent system that applies progressive traction control. On some settings it is so subtle you won't even know it is working. But don’t take my word for it cause I don’t know much about it.
redline Rooster
ahh right!! cool, I have heard they are very good, but also cost £££££££££ - hmm well i'll see whats wrong with mine first then if its gonna give me greef out it comes and in goes a better one!! The thing is it does seem to disengage OK, when the TRC Light comes on properly *as you would expect *, I mean how easy should it be to get a wheel spin on dry tarmac in Drive on an Auto box?!?!! - I was only wondering becuase when the two light illuminate at half brightness it kinda feels like it may still be active!?!?!? oh well its all fun and games! carl0s
lights glowing dimly with trac off is one of the symptoms of dry solder joints on the display cluster in the top right of the vehicle (where the TRAC OFF light is). A common fault and easily fixed. (I know this is an old thread, I'm just working to improve the search feature )

The UK one just says "TRC" The UK (Auto) has TRC next to the fuel/water temp gauge which comes on and then off during the ignition start up sequence AND has the TRC OFF illumination as carlOs mentions “display cluster in the top right “ when the TC is manually deactivated.
