Breakdown cover - RAC

Hi peeps

I took out RAC breakdown cover last year when I bought the supra. I've been spoilt by owning new cars up until now so thought it would be a good idea, even though its a Toyota ;)

Well, they charged me 79.99 - more than UK cars as its an import apparently  Its just come up for renewal, they've discounted 10% Great!! except they've increased it to 100.80!!

Cover is for me not just vehicle (only need vehicle tbh) but me in anyones car, Roadside, recovery, at home, 'accident care'.

This seems steep to me but previous club toyota insurance wouldnt cover me as mine is japanese :( Anyone had similar experience? Or should I just keep a mechanic in the boot??? :D

Advice and suggestions please :)

Linda

If you get AA personal cover, they cover you in any car and you dont have to give vehicle details when you apply. I paid £63 last year and just had my renewal through for £99.00, but a quick phone call and they discounted it down to last years price.

I thought the RAC worked on exactly the same principle TBH. It seems not (I'm an RAC member, and I don't think I ever told them what cars I own.) Mind you, I joined a few years ago.

Edit: it probably won't save you much, but I could refer you, and we could share any kick-back that I receive for doing it.

Edit 2: Doh! I've just realised you're renewing so my suggestion won't work. I'll get my coat...

Hi Guys

When Our AA membership came up for renewal last month they quoted £120. We were thinking about changing our breakdown cover to the RAC as they quoted £93 for the full works. On speaking to a very nice chap at the AA and told him what the RAC had quoted, he reduced our subscription to £90!! so guys it is worth haggling!!

Cheers

Carole :)
