Carbon Footprint!!!!!!!!!

I am now seriously pi**ed off with the govenment!

All you ever hear about now is how to reduce your 'Carbon Footprint', it's even on TV adverts. Which one is it? I think it's one of those fabric conditioners or something, basically "Buy it in a bulk bottle and we can loose 14,000 lorries off the roads a year!" @@$$@!!

Just don't use it in the first place, and you could save all the plastics and chemicals involved in its manufacture, that would save more carbon!

Just read the editorial in Top Gear, a few quotes "next year's extension and escalation of London's Congestion Charge", "if you drive anything bigger or more pokey than a Focus ST, you're screwed". "any cars dumping more than 225g of carbon dioxide out of their tailpipes every kilometer, the charge jumps from £8 to £25"."And if you're not a Londoner and are getting bored of this... here's why I need to spell it out. The new definition of central London from next February will roughly defined as anything inside the M25." Just to top it all off.."and you happen to drive a Band G, 225g/km car ( or any car built before 2001 with a 3.0-litre plus engine) you don't get any residents' discount. At all."

Why do they always pick on 'Joe average' to tax to death. The rich get richer.....Fu#k the rest of us!

Isn't it about time they looked at the bigger picture. As a nation we are less polluting now that we were back in the Industrial Revolution Age. Pick on the big corperations and make them look at their own 'footprint' and make them clean up their acts.

A few other ideas...Streetlights, what a waste of power at night, yes at junctions and in town centres, but motorways....I thought thats what headlights were invented for.

More wind farms. I hate people that complain about polluting power stations, but as soon as someone wants to put up a wind farm..."Ooooh Don't want that there, what an eyesore and the noise!" GET A LIFE!!!!!!!

I'd rather see wind farms than a dirty great big coal fired power station.

So to sum up.... LEAVE US ALONE

Sorry for the long rant, just had to get it off my chest!

Ian

I was driving behind a bus the other day and it had a massive advert on the back, telling you to leave your lights on when you leave the house, so you don't get burgled.

But in the next breath they're telling you to turn your lights off when you leave a room??? which one is it???:search::think::confused:

I don't think they know... plonkers!!!

I used to do that Ian, nearly got Ste banned once, but I've bit the bullet and joined now... come on you know you want to;)

I dont really give a shit about my carbon footprint, for a start i have a decatted supra and secondly, for the amount we pay in tax on fuel they should have a team of guys up there repairing the damage! but that aint gonna happen.

Our bin under amber valley council only gets collected once every 2 weeks as someone thought that would save them money so half the neighborhood burns any excess rubbish they have.......

The UK could reduce its carbon footprint overnight by half if all the councils would stop illuminating f*cking buildings at night. The only buildings needing illumination at night are the OPEN ones! ....not some f*cking town hall or other sh*t.

And don't get me started on those pompus tw*ts who voted to give themselves a pay rise, whilst at the same time giving themselves more holidays! (the rage will consume me!).

Me and Cable were talking about this the other day and basically just came up with the fact that it's this govorments hot environmental topic. Remember a few years ago when you we were being burnt by acid rain??? has acid rain vanished now or something, as I never hear about it anymore.

Bloody fuel is ridiculous. The local Texaco is selling its 97 octane fuel at £1.119

I am a placid chap but this whole green issue sends me in to a rage.

Its just a means of control remember when it was called "global warming" and has now subtley changed in to climate change after it was proved it was hotter many years ago.

Lots of buzz words being used like "impending disaster" and potential end of the world and the biggest threat man is facing, it is bolax :badmood:

I am sick to death of the spin and propoganda played out on the news and via the government unfortunately people believe it.

They can pull out graphs and data to prove anything given a short enough or long enough time line and entering data in to a computer model is still based on guess work. An educated guess is still a guess ;)

We can't predict the weather accurately passed 1 week how the hell can we have any idea on an issue as complex as the climate if they can't tell me whether i need to wear sunscreen or put on my wellies on a particular day in to the future.

The sheer arrogance of man to think that we have any impact on what is happening in this world we inhabit. I think we are just a speck in the great scheme of things and no matter what we do (short of nuclear war) the planet will evolve and change in the way it will.

An entertaining book to read is a book by Michael Crichton called "state of fear" a lot of what he writes about rings so true today. particular interest being the final couple of chapters in the book.

Just to address a couple of points.

Acid rain: acid rain is still around and still causing environmental damage. It's thought to be responsible for songbird populations declining in the US, for example.

There are two reasons why it's no longer such a 'hot topic'. One is that levels are at least in some places on the decline due to clean air legislation. Again the Eastern US is one example. The other is that the potential problems of anthropegenic climate change absolutely dwarf those of acid rain. As an analogy: you don't worry about acne if your leg is about to be amputated.

Predictability of the weather and weather systems: the argument seems to run:

1. We can't predict the weather next week accurately

2. It is harder to predict things that are further in the future

3. Therefore, predictions about future weather must be more inaccurate than next week's weather i.e. pretty useless.

The problem with this argument is that two sorts of predictions are being conflated. Predictions about the weather next week aim to be incredibly specific, tying things down to small areas and time frames. Predictions about climate change are concerned with general trends. So the argument would work if climatologists were trying to predict what the weather would be like on November 17th, 2040. But instead, they are saying "on the whole, it will probably be significantly warmer in Autumns 30 years from now"

As for Michael Crichton.....well, he does specialise in themes of Science getting it wrong (think Jurassic Park) :). I know he did a lot of research for State of Fear, but he is a writer, not a scientist. His arguments don't add up to much and contain some factual errors.

I'm pretty sure he is a scientist though, who's turned to fiction writing. Like Jeffrey Deaver, who used to be a criminal investigator of some description, and now writes crime novels.

The climate has always changed. I watched Walking With Dinosaurs/Monsters/insert scary toothy thing here- and at every other sequence narrator KB mentioned that XYZ died out because it got hotter/drier/wetter/colder/whatever or the reverse happend and something else prospered because the climate is changing to suit a particular species.

Hasn't anyone else noticed the ads/pressure groups/govs have changed their mantra from 'global warming' to 'climate change' to 'climate chaos'???

Some scientists say we are overdue a downturn in world temps, some oppotunists blame this at the feet of man, well which is worse, being a little bit too hot or being a little bit too cold? Have a Pruis and freeze or have a Ferrari and be warm.... oh dear God that's such a hard choice....
