michael
My N95, in the same way as other Nokia phones, remembers new words when sending text messages but it's taken it upon itself to add "yot" which it defaults to when you want to write "you". Is there any way to edit the list of words to remove ones you don't want and if so how do you do it?
DaveK
I haven't found a way. I did (once) manage to make it forget a couple of words by switching to a different language and then switching back - but have never made that work again. I've actually concluded the only way to do it is to reflash it. Mine has recently decided that "you're" is actually "you.re". I suppose I could just use the forum solution and type "your". Big Ads
If you add enough other new words will it not push out the older "new" words? like yot? If that makes sense.

Doesn't seem to - someone on the N95 forum thinks it might be firmware related though, the newer version (which I wasn't aware of) remembers your most used selection and defaults to it. TrickTT
If you add a word to the dictionary yourself, it will always come up as the first choice. Did you add yot to it? My N95 doesn't give it as an option.

Big Ads
Found this: 1) Open a new message. 2) Type in the word it gets "wrong" (such as "wmv"). Press the "*" until the word you *want* is displayed (such as "you"). 3) Type in a space with the "0" key. 4) Repeat steps 2 & 3 until it gets the correct word first time. It usually takes 3 or 4 goes, but it could be more! Finally, close the message (& delete it) then create a new message and try the word once more. It should now be back to normal! Repeat the whole thing for each problematic word. Bit of a PITA tho.
tbourner
I thought it put the most used word at the top of the predictive list, so if you stop using 'yot' (which I assume you don't use very often anyway) it should gradually put it further and further down the list until it'll go through all other combinations of '9 6 8' before suggesting 'yot'. //edit: As above. That doesn't work for me at the moment, apparently due to the firmware I'm using - will update tonight and hopefully that will cure it. I've been sending people texts that just say "you you you you you you arse" for a while now. No idea where it got "yot" from originally though. *#0000# - I'm on v11.0.026 - I presume you lot are on a newer or older one where this works as it should? I have 12.0.013 which I got about a month ago. Before I flashed that version in, I also had "yot" even though I'm sure I never actually typed it. michael
Maybe they added "yot" as a feature
tepster
There is a way, however, im unsure if the prog will work on a N95.. it should tho! You need a prog called FExplorer available HERE It needs to be signed in order to work on any phone ( I can do this for you if need be) Then you can browse all the files in your phone (see screenshots on above link) In the C; drive of your phone is a file called "Predic" and in there is a .dat file. This can be copied to the memory card then read on a PC using notepad. It contains all the words u have added to the dictionary. Remove the ones you dont want and save the file and replace it over the one stored in the phone. This is also good if u have a N95: available HERE
michael
v12.0.013 sorted it for me, FExplorer may come in handy in the future and I already have Rotate Me - having said that the firmware upgrade deleted it so I had to reinstall, as well as all the usual stuff it takes out - why can't they retain simple stuff like contacts without you having to do a backup? Anyway v12.0.013 seems to have slowed boot time, reduced my battery life, given me a 3.5G icon when high speed access is available and it makes the gallery button on the side flash once when the keypad locks.... but no more "yot" so I'm OK with this. Sheefa
I've had nothing but problems with my N95 Michael. It keeps turning itself off, it only shows that I have a new text/mms/voice message if I actually go into the Menu interface (no icon on the phone desktop itself shows up anymore) and often I call people and they can't hear me so I have to restart the phone - great in an emergency hey. Also, I took a few pics the other day and now it will only take pics/video in landscape mode no matter what I do (flip screen, adjust settings, restart etc). Not happy! ..........oh and mine does the word replacement thing too but with the word New.
Thorin
On my phone, if I select someone from my contacts then press the green button, it actually makes that persons phone make a ringing noise. Then, if they press their green button, you can actually talk to each other! How cool is that?
