Seifer
Hey guys, I've recently replaced the dials in my 96 auto tt import (pre-facelift). The rev counter doesn't seem to work though, an this is the third set of dials i have had?!! (Cheers Jezz! ) The first set I had, the speedo didn't work an the rev counter did, then the second and third sets, the speedo did work but the rev counter didn't! At first I just thought it was a problem with the dials but after putting in this last set and it having the same problem as the second set, i'm thinking it may be a problem with my car. What I don't understand though is how the rev counter on the first set worked perfectly and how on these other two it doesn't work at all???!! Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers Dave
miko_supra
checked your fuses? one may have blown in the swap or might just need resetting.
Seifer
I thought the fuse was for the whole gauge cluster not just the rev counter? Could be wrong though. How would I reset it? Thanks for the reply btw.
miko_supra
find out what fuse it is and just pull it out and push it back in again. or try unplugging the battery for half a minute. just giving you some easy ideas that may resolve it! dini_the_owl
Hi, there is differences between n/a tacho and tt tacho as the tt uses coilpacks instead of the typical distributor, you can check the signal going to the ecu from the diagnostics port in the engine bay,if i remember it is black, or black and white wire, then you have the output wire from the ecu to the dial, make sure they are tt dials, then check diagnostics box, then wire from ecu to dials, if they all buz out ok it may be the connection on the dial cluster(normally white plug). Is it possible that i've been given a set of dials from an n/a? I guess that would explain why the rev counter worked first time and then didn't with the other. Jezz
They're deffo TT dials mate, as per PM's, the last set i sent you had every bulb changed, new from Toyota, and the set was tested by myself in a TT just before I sent them. TT and NA clusters are fairly easy to distinguish between. One has 741 stamped on the back, and the other has 743.
Seifer
Cool, cheers jezz. I guess i'll have to take the car to an auto electrician or something to try an find out why they're not working.
