It has much more internal memory as well as firmware updates i would imagine so should be faster, you can update firmware of the existing N95 which apparently does speed it up, i will try it for myself this weekend.

P.S. That WAS highly entertaining

I'm not entirely convinced by that.

It has much more internal memory (8GB) but that's primarily for storing music / vids etc (i.e rather than a memory card). The user interface of Symbian phones is often slow, if they are split across multiple processors (which N95 is). Because then, the UI runs on the second processor - and it might not exactly be a Cray supercomputer......

My N95 has the latest s/w and I don't find it particularly blinding. You just tend to get used to it.

I must be one of the lucky ones. I've never had any issues but i haven't upgraded the firmware either. I know that a lot of the phones have had problems with the slider being a bit shakey but mine has been fine.

All the issues are covered in the warranty anyway. I know its a pain but at least there is an answer. Hopefully the new one has all the wrinkles ironed out.

It depends when you got it, mine was purchased on the day of release so had the original firmware - this wasn't great, memory issues when using the internet or camera, locking up, switching itself off and so on. Friends purchased them later and the phones came with the firmware I'd upgraded to - the current version is pretty stable.

The main design fault is the earpiece speaker, it falls out of it's mountings and rattles when it produces sound, you have to suck / blow into the hole until you hear it click back in.

Not had any issues with my N95 yet either, but wish I could get rid of the big bar at the top of the home screen that displays the time\signal strength etc. Or at least make it transparent ?

And also, do you have to have all the icons\calendar\WLAN scanning off on the home screen ? Doesnt seem very easy to tinker with

No you can turn them off.

Not sure exactly how to do it but its in the tools/settings menu.

I think it's the Active Standby setting (or something like that).

Cheers lads, icons etc all gone. any idea on how to make the bar at the top transparent ?

I might be wrong - but I don't think you can do that without editing the theme. You can get PC s/w where you can mess about with the themes and change the icons / display etc. I did it ages ago - but it's pretty time consuming, and the s/w to do it was..... not the best.

How do you turn 3G off mate ? Does it show that I haven't had time to play with my phone !!! ;)

You set it to make a connection only when needed rather than always available.

Settings->Connectivity->Packet data...?

No. That's changing whether the UE establishes a packet data connection at power up, or only when you're (e.g) browsing the web. It doesn't change whether your phone is using 3G (e.g. for voice calls).

Go into Settings->Phone->Network and change Network Mode.

Edit : You might find it makes less difference to battery life than you think.........

Ah I see, must make a difference though?

Bluetooth makes the biggest difference on mine, but then I don't have WLAN.

Not so much for battery life, no. If there is no data, the n/w will still send the UE to idle even though it's Attached / context activated.
