michael
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7089707.stm The car could boast special features like a compass pointing to Mecca and a dedicated space to keep a copy of the Koran and a headscarf. A Shogun has a compass and space for a Koran and a headscarf already. Racist.
ivan
For one second there I thought the first para read "The Malaysian carmaker Proton has announced plans to develop an "Islamic car", designed for Muslim terrorists." Must get my eyes tested...
michael
I wonder if other cars will be produced with a religious theme? What would each one look for in a car? "Must have rear view mirror to hang a cross on and room for a bible" FFS *rollspies*
CJ
OK, it's crackers - or is it? Here we have a car manufacturer that needs to differentiate itself to try and sell more vehicles. We also have a massive market that may just be swayed by these features? I see a very clever marketing ploy rather than stupidity.
ukApache
i think its a bit of a con becuase you can glue a compass to any dash and most cars have a space for a copy of the quran and a headscarf, although typically its called a glovebox

Animal
Wonder if my plan for nailing a goat skull to my supra and installing a small altar and black candles in the top glovebox will catch on... ...probably not.
RedM
I'd get a Buddhist car. Satnav, top notch hi-fi, aircon, whatever gadget or option you can think if it'd come with it. As Buddha said, make me one with everything.

michael
.....but generalizing and stereotyping makes things a LOT worse Yet that's exactly what the article is doing isn't it? And what about the other comments about Christians, Jews and Satanists? Are they OK because they aren't aimed at Muslims? Etc

Are they OK because they aren't aimed at Muslims? Etc fair point. Not that its ok, but right now is a bit of a sensitive time for those sort of jokes/comments towards muslims and it only serves to alienate the good ones that are about. I'm not into this extreme PC sh*t but i know that sometimes people can get the wrong idea. I wasnt having a go

far
this aint a stupid marketing idea - its appealing to a wide demographic in the Asian market. HOWEVER it IS a stupid product ! and people regularly buy bullshit solutions to things that generally dont need a solution
