dangerous brain
my93supra... Dude, I've done the engine swap thing, and it is a damn good project IF you have got the time and the inclination and are prepared for set backs... You do have the added advantage of the satisfaction that you have done the work.. As far as being cheaper doing it that way...keep dreaming... an engine swap is not the cheapest way to do things... I ended up swopping EVERYTHING other than the bodyshell pretty much Gav Ah but lets be fair here gav you've done slightly more than just swap out an engine. Alot of your costs are associatted with the single turbo/and VVti complications (and the fact you can't resist buying anything ). Still by far the simplest thing you can do and the cheapest is to get hold of a write off TT with an intact drivetrain and engine. If you do the work yourself then it will turn out cheaper than selling your N/A aero and buying a TT aero. There are more of the elusive TT aero's about these days but they are still a rare beast. JustGav
As DB said, I had to change a lot of the stuff because I went with a VVTi lump which has it a whole stack of new bits on it... If you have the non-vvti engine, it should go in fairly easy to be honest without having to rip out stuff... Speak to Adi, I know he has done an NA-TT swop as well but without the VVti stuff Gav
dangerous brain
Shop around 2k should get you a complete write off car with reasonable miles. Thing you will find is that people on here will have the spares you need knocking around if it comes to you going that route. Personally I would look for the whole rear subframe as that is so much easier to change over than a diff will be. Anyone that has a rear subframe will have the shafts, in fact thinking about it I may have the shafts still.

Guest my93supra
hey i think i've decided imma go with the NA-T i love turbocharged cars all the cars i ever owned were turbocharged. how much power is the tranny capable of pusdhing without havin rebuild? dangerous brain
Might be best to search the supraforums you have in the good old US of A. Theres quite a bit of info available as its something that gets done a bit over there. Not many here have done it. But for what its worth I had people tell me the transmission is good for circa 350 bhp if its an auto and a bit more if its the 5 speed manual. To be honest though NA/T power would be best put through an uprated box and LSD
Tom S
Depends what you're after. If you want a Supra because of what it looks like or for the attention it gets then I guess a NA would be OK. They're very reliable because they're pretty much the same engine as the TT but less stressed. I think if most NA owners were being honest they would tell you that they wish they'd paid the extra and bought a TT, or waited longer until they found a TT that had the same features that their NA has. Most of us TT owners are hungry for more power, being a NA owner must be very frustrating. You can get a TT for what, seven grand? How much are you thinking of spending? Jake, get a life ! I like my NA, didn't want a TT. also pretty sure if you ask most NA drivers on here they would tell you the same. Some of you TT drivers think that a TT is the only way forward. adi2009
I have done an NA-TT swap (non-VVTi) http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=36858&highlight=engine+swap The NA-TT (non-vvti) swap is fairly straightforward, but not necessarily easy. You do not really need to strip out the entire car's wiring like Gav had to do when he did his (VVTi) swap. You'll need a TT's tachometer for the TT engine. Once u do the swap you will really understand the Supra a lot better mechanically and it is great if you are up for it. I cant give you info on costs associated, because my car is in India and the costs associated are different from what they would be here in the UK. In my case, I did the NA-TT swap due to not being able to find a 6spd TT supra for sale. because of shipping and customs tax (engine from malaysia, 6spd box from UK) my costs were very high for parts but in terms of labor, much cheaper. Gazboy
same but with 5 years no claims and im paying £1300 Likewise, I'm 25, wife is 32, full ncb- £1000. Matey regarding MR2's - hairdresser cars? Yeah alright, better (and faster) than an all show-no go "I bought it cos it looks nice" N/A Supra.

Gazboy
Depends on what model MR2 now really doesnt it I know i would rather have an NA Supra than a bog standard NA MR2. Very true, and a valid point- although matey (the orginal poster) couldn't decide between the MR2T vs GT4 vs Supra TT vs Supra NA, so assumed the hairdresser comment was leveled at the MR2T. Lol, oh right. Well between a MR2 Turbo and an NA supra I'de go for the MR2. But of course out of all those it would have to be the TT supra! Gazboy
Agree, although wouldn't say no to a rev5 MR2T, but would rather get an NSX, Tamora or Corvette next. Back on topic- Adrian Flux eh? I'll give 'em a ring...
Matt T
but would rather get an NSX Awesome cars, would love to own one one day! Flux were the cheapest for me on my current car, and dont charge much for modifications given you hold a modified car policy. Hopefully they'll be just as competitive with the Supra
Steve W2
Firstly - Hello! Secondly - Forgive me for not reading all 200000000000000 posts in this thread. Thirdly - I you wnat a fast car get the MR2 Turbo, its more fun than a NA Supra. They are however, less reliable and not so pleasing on the eye as the Supe. Fourthly - MPG in an NA isn't much better, probably 3-4MPG but nobody ever takes into consideration the cost of the petrol per litre. Boggo unleaded is much cheaper than Optimax or Ultimate and over a few miles each week adds up to a fair saving. Fifthly (?) - Quote: Originally Posted by Jake Depends what you're after. JustGav
At the end of the day, people want different things out of the cars... I personally wouldn't right off an NA as a choice... My first car was an NA, which I've now done a big single conversion to... yeah I want more power in my fun car, HOWEVER I have gone out and bought another supra which is a NA for my other half so that she can enjoy it and I will be able to use it in the winter... The NA is a lovely car and lets be honest has more than enough power for most roads in the UK.. Gav
