RedM
As per the thread title.
JustGav
Doubt it... The high end graphics cards alone seem to cost the same as an xbox these days....
Epic
no is the basic answer mate, soz. a grapics card could set you back the price of a
Epic
lol Justgav, u must have got in there a few secounds quicker. but great minds think alike lol
michael
For the cost of a PS3 and a 360 combined - yes For the price of one or the other - unlikely. You could build a "decent" system I guess but not something "state of the art" - the CPU alone to fit with that description would be ~£600 (X6800 / QX6850). RedM
I thought so. Most of the games I'm into are making an appearance on either one or both of the consoles. Annoyingly there are a few games that are PC only (Crysis for example) where I'm thinking that we could maybe justify a new PC.
RedM
Also, buying a PC rather than the two consoles means I'd miss out on Halo 3 and other console exclusive titles. Unified gaming platform anyone?
colsoop
£700 would get you a decent rig, capable of playing the most modern games and being future proof - for a few months at least
Epic
my pc crashed while trying to load Crysis and i got a P4 lol

You buy state of the art and it's old hat even before developrs learn to fully exploit the hardware. With games as well, you think "ooh that looks good, I'll get that when it comes out" and by the time it does your PC won't run it unless all options are off. my pc crashed while trying to load Crysis and i got a P4 lol I read something the other day that said that there is no hardware available YET that'll run Crysis with everything on and at a decent framerate. Is that true?

Is that true? no, mine runs it ok at highest everything. but then, i dont have a normal system
RedM
Slightly OT but is there a site that says what formats a game will be released on in a hady list. It's time consuming looking at individual game sites or platform specific sections on other sites. Something along the lines of: Crysis - PC Alan Wake PC/360 etc etc
RedM
no, mine runs it ok at highest everything. but then, i dont have a normal system 2 x Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL5(5-5-5-12) Heat Spreader Lifetime Warranty 1 x Extra Value Nvidia 8800GTX 768MB GDDR3 Dual DVI PCI-E Graphics Card OEM 1 x Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping (2.4GHz 1066MHz) Socket 775 L2 8MB Cache (2x4MB (4MB per core pair) Retail Boxed Processor 1 x Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R Socket 775 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard 1 x Arctic Cooling AC-FRZ-7P Freezer 7 Pro Socket 775 Processor Cooler 1 x Zalman ZM-STG1 Thermal Grease So I see. About £680 at a guess? Not a bad price but I'd still be wanting the console only games.

RedM
A new gaming rig would also mean a new monitor and buying an OS. That'll bump the cost up.
Angarak
A new gaming rig would also mean a new monitor and buying an OS. That'll bump the cost up. Only if you dont already have a PC, otherwise you could salvage several parts from it (monitor, keyboard, mouse, OS key, pc case, cd/dvd, etc). colsoop
Assuming the monitor can support decent resolutions. there is no point buying an uber gaming rig to be stuck at 1024 x
Masenko
I spent just under £900 on mine...and it's state of the art. I'm talking quad core stream...etc, dual SLI cards...
