Engines from USA - risk associated with it?

I see. Are refurbished goods import duty exempt then? :blink: If I were the poster, I would check with the C&E to find out the rules.

 

Nope. Also, people keep saying things about gifts, it makes very little difference if it's a gift or not. Things under £18 are exempt from duty and VAT, this rises to £36 for gifts. So unless it's something cheap you have to pay whether or not it's a gift. Plus to be considered a gift it has to come from a private address anyway.

Interesting. So, how do certain overseas traders on here get away with that then? Is everything sent as a gift valued at less than £36? Or are the C&E not too worried about the small fry? :eyebrows:

You generally pay some duty & VAT, but remember it's based on the declared value ;). Also there's a lot of parcels come into the country, not all get inspected.
