SimonB
I see. Are refurbished goods import duty exempt then? If I were the poster, I would check with the C&E to find out the rules. Nope. Also, people keep saying things about gifts, it makes very little difference if it's a gift or not. Things under £18 are exempt from duty and VAT, this rises to £36 for gifts. So unless it's something cheap you have to pay whether or not it's a gift. Plus to be considered a gift it has to come from a private address anyway. Is everything sent as a gift valued at less than £36? Or are the C&E not too worried about the small fry?

Also there's a lot of parcels come into the country, not all get inspected.
Sean1933
I have had a lot of stuff come from the states over the years. It seems most get shipped as a "reconditioned protype/test item" or something along those lines. Only problem with this is it could be argued that its priceless.......
