Jake
The wankers at the DVLA have fined me £40 because the SORN on my grey Supra has run out. I take it they don't send out reminders like they do for road tax then? It's daylight robbery. Tw@ts.

Rob
There's a letter from the Doovla in todays Telegraph Motoring. They send out reminders purely for your benefit, they have no obligation to do so, so if it gets lost in the post, or some other admin error, it's still entirely up to you to remember to re-Sorn or tax your car. CJ
no mate, the bloke who owns the bike shop is my mate and didnt want yet another owner on it when he sold it You didn't need to do that. You just needed to fill in the part to say you sold it to a trade outlet and that would have ensured your liability ceased and also it would have meant no new owner would show on the V5 until he sold it. Well they're still a bunch of c*nts. I wish I was in a business where I could charge people for basically fu*k all. The whole business of road tax is a rip-off anyway. It's bad enough having to pay it when you DO use your car on the road. But even when you don't use it you still have to keep filling out their stupid forms or be fined for nothing. Grrrr! Rob
This is true. I never agreed with the SORN thing, I don't see what business it is of the Govts. as to how many cars I may choose to keep on my own land. It's a good point though, what HAVE you been fined for? You haven't endangered or inconvenienced the public in any way.
Rob
In fact by not notifying them of your SORN renewal, you've caused them to go through the process of fining you, which presumably costs the Doovla some time/money which they re-coup in the fine, all of which could have been avoided if the whole SORN process didn't exist at all. Jake
....and why do I have to renew a SORN at all. I've declared it as being off road, why do I have to keep declaring that it's still off road? As far as I'm concerned the fact it's not taxed should tell them it's off the road anyway. OK if I use on the road without tax I've committed an offence - but I haven't done that.
