Car Depriciation - Isnt it wierd - Cud a supra be a 'old classic' ?

If you buy a spankin new car, out of the show room, 0 miles and the second you set foot off the fourcourt its lost say 1k on a typical 12k worth of car.

As the years drag on, there values become less and less, untill in the end you have a 5 year old car and its not worth 6k - half of what you paid for it.

Then in another 5 years it will be worth 2k ect ect

Then, this is what makes me gigle. If you leave it, as its worthless, become an old classic - 25 years plus, it then starts to GAIN value.

Ive seen some 'old classics' fetch 15 - 20k plus

Do you think locking a supra away for another 15-20 years would be a worth while investment? Wud they ever become an ' old classic' ???

Food for thaught me thinks........

If it is well mainted whilst it is in storeage there is no reason why not. Then again you can never tell what kind of car will be a classic.

In 15 to 20 years time there may not be a car market as the Government will have taxed us all out of owning one. Long time to wait for to buy a ornament.

I remember my Dad having one of these and in this colour :)

Hahhaha

Nah just something got me thinking........................ Im seriously considering puttin mine - under 50k milage - into storage and forgeting her for 15 years

and bying another to keep me happy.......

have to admit tho - in 15 years to come, a TT Jspec RZ would be one hell of a classic ? dont you think?

Wouldnt they be worth even more then if cars siezed to exist?

i hope so! ;)

i agree that these motors could become "classic" status, thus being worth more wonga! thats why people with these cars should realise what they have when selling and price it up HIGH to reflect this - that way the whole market price would rise. Thats why i dont understand some people selling TT's for stupidly low money.....

if you look at the escort cossies, you will strugle to find a mint, low mileage one for under £17k. And to think they were only £20-£22k new!!!!

People keep making statements like this, and it makes me laugh. Look in the Classified section and see how many of the high priced Supra's have been for sale for - literally - months.

I also disagree with the (very simple) theory that if we all increased the prices we sold our cars at (if such a thing was possible) that this would increase the market price. It would simply mean that potential buyers would buy other cars and none of us would be able to sell.

Believe it or not - the Supra is not the best car in the world ever.

A company was knocking down a wall in an office block a few years ago and found a Jaguar XJ220 'emtombed' for the very reason of keeping it pristine until it was a classic.

I remember that story, it had something like 11 miles on the clock. The owners had put it in a disused cargo lift (I think) and bricked up the entrance.

It would be a different story if the market was flooded with imported ones from another country though.

I still think it depends highly on the rareity of the motor, the classics that go for alot tend to be really hard to come buy. Like Jake says, modified cars dont really come into the classic category

If you returned it to stock - then put it in storage it might?
