Supra-Brett
Well done mate, christ knows how your going to get everything back in. If it was me, i would end up with a massive pile of parts wondering where the heck there all meant to go.

miko_supra
Wow!! looking good, have you got a 6 speed to put in as well? no unfortunately not. don't have the moneys for it and not planning on going much above stock power (just staying stock at the moment.) 5 speed is good up to 380bhp reliably i've heard from the states (bpu power). so just gonna install an uprated clutch
wrenlea
Impressive, better than a Haynes manual! MANY years ago I took the engine/gearbox out of my MGBGT V8 as I had to send the gear box away to be refurbished. There was less than 1cm clearance each side as I recall. I organised all the bolts, nuts etc into labelled plastic bags but when I had put it all back together a small bolt/nut remained unused with no label. Quite worrying at the time but it worked fine, nothing fell off and I never determined what it was !
Jezz
You done this before?? Nice one mate, if you need any help with anything give me a shout. Will pop over with the remaining bits.
Scooter
Great to see DIY stuff and really helpful to have it all documented........i'm sure it will come in handy for me one day. Good luck with the next stage and enjoy that first drive

Guest bmantis
This is just what I was looking for. Did you actually find a USDM GTE? All I ever see are JDM and aristos.

Nic
5 speed is good up to 380bhp reliably i've heard from the states (bpu power). so just gonna install an uprated clutch I remember reading of a few members on here having problems with the 5spd box after TT transplant. I think one was done by MKIVstore, so JodyT may know more.

I think one was done by MKIVstore, so JodyT may know more. I have been running a W58 in my T61 na/t conversion now for over two years, and with 0.8bar for nearly two of them years with no problems. I am a great believer it is how you actually drive the car to how the box holds out.

Yeah i called the garage to ask for the remaining parts yesterday but steve wasn't in. but apparently a note was left...how many pieces of inlet pipe are needed? is it 2 or 3 coming out of the airbox? All I ever see are JDM and aristos. jezz supplied everything needed. really nice low millage j-spec engine with all the bits needed. an aristo engine can be used. just the oil sump needs changing to a supra one as there is clearance issues

miko_supra
day 7 just a little bit of work done today...got the gearbox, clutch and flywheel off. -Ok firstly disconnect these two connectors and lay them on top of the engine http://xs221.xs.to/xs221/07466/065gearbox.JPG http://xs221.xs.to/xs221/07466/066gearbox.JPG -then undo these bolts. including the two that hold in the starter motor on the left http://xs121.xs.to/xs121/07466/067gearbox.JPG -remember to do this bolt on the other side down on the right. there was an exact same on on the left too, but this was taken off with the clutch fork assembly before the engine came out, which holds in a bracket. http://xs121.xs.to/xs121/07466/068gearbox.JPG -before taking the gearbox off remember that the C of G is going to be completely changed so just bare this in mind as the engine will tilt forward (get anything out of the way) -then just slide the gear box out. there are only a couple of 3/4 inch long studs locating the gearbox, that hold it in. so just slide it off of these. the box doesn't weigh too much and is easy enough to carry by yourself (but still watch your back and all that for this one) http://xs321.xs.to/xs321/07466/069gearbox.JPG -now take the clutch out. the part you can see at the moment is the housing which contains the release mechanism. there are just 6 bolts for this and it comes right out with the clutch. http://xs321.xs.to/xs321/07466/070clutch.JPG -I still haven't decided what clutch to use on mine yet, but I've been told that the stock clutch is sill good for stock power on the tt. Mine looks like its on its last legs any way so its worth replacing if you are still sticking with stock. http://xs321.xs.to/xs321/07466/071clutch.JPG -now take the fly wheel off which is 8 bi hex bolts. when you try and undo them the fly wheel will turn, so to get over this, gently place a flathead screwdriver between the teeth on the fly wheel and wedge it into part of the housing at the back (indicated where i put the screwdriver on mine in the picture) or alternatively if you used an air powered gun to undo them, the impact shock would overcome the flywheel turning i would imagine. http://xs321.xs.to/xs321/07466/072flywheel.JPG -two parts to the fly wheel. The primary (which has the teeth) and the secondary which sits in front and what the clutch presses against. http://xs321.xs.to/xs321/07466/073flywheel.JPG -now im using my n/a 5 speed box to put onto the tt engine, so the 5 speed fly wheel needs putting onto the tt. and obviously if you were using a 6 speed, then you would need a 6 speed fly wheel. -to put the fly wheel on put in all the bolts and do them up to leave 1 thread showing. then tap around the fly wheel with a rubber mallet to ensure the flywheel is properly located. keep doing this as you tighten them up with a ratchet. http://xs121.xs.to/xs121/07466/074flywheel.JPG -the bolts must be tightened up in pairs (ie; tighten one up, then tighten the one opposite that one. then the next pair should be at 90 degrees to the last pair. -Torque the bolts using a torque wrench to 36ft.lbs and then turn them a further 90 degrees. http://xs121.xs.to/xs121/07466/075flywheel.JPG
