RedM
I'm thinking of buying one the games from this series but I can't work out if you can race computer controlled opponents. Can anyone shed any light on it for me? I won't bother if you have to play it against online opponents.
Snooze
I played the first one quite a bit. As far as I recall, the single player stuff was all just against the clock.
Muffleman
I bought Trackmania United and that definitely had CPU controlled opponents.

I've read that but they are there just as a guide rather than real opponents. I gather that you can't crash into them.
Muffleman
Think you might be right mate. I didn't play it a lot TBH.
RedM
I've crossed it off my list anyway. I'm fed up with the likes of Forza and would love a nice, arcadey type of racing game. Trackmania looked ideal until the lack of opponents came to light.

garetheves
If you just want a good, arcade, fun PC racing game then you cant go wrong with Test Drive Unlimited. Should be cheap now as well.

Snooze
Does LFS have offline CPU opponents? Yeah - they start off pretty poor, but the AI for them will actually learn from watching your driving style which is quite cool. Note, however, that LFS, whilst being my favourite driving game, is definitely 100% simulation (a la Forza) rather than arcade fun.

michael
I can setup an lfs s2 server if anyone facnies a bash ? I think we've tried this before with no joy but I'm up for it if we can agree on a suitable time. A bit out of practice though so don't laugh at me
RedM
I've downloaded the LFS demo and I'm finding it a bit sim-y. I'm really after something more arcade like. Plenty of power sliding, big jumps etc. Trackmania looked to fit the boll but the lack of CPU cars makes it a non-starter. I'm sick of the NFS games as NFSU drove me to despair with it's 'appearing from out of nowhere directly in front of you' cars. I don't think TD:Unlimited came out on old Xbox and I don't think my pc will run it. Basically, if you remember the old Screamer series of games then that's what I want. With jumps. Guigsy
ive played trackmania lots but on a LAN with loads of other people. we spend hours inventing totaly mental tracks and then racing. great fun. but its not much of a single player game. Thorin
Screamer rocked. Played Trackmania:Nations (I think that was it, Free downloadable one?), single player was just against ghost cars of your best lap IIRC. Was quite good fun online though. RedM
Despite wanting am arcade racing game I'm getting into LFS. I'm using the mouse to steer and I'm finding it really easy to do big drifts. Might pay to get it unlocked.
michael
Might pay to get it unlocked. It's worth it, the different modes, tracks and cars really enhance the game Then you can go online and race against the ramming retards that don't brake for corners. Playing online is bad for my health. It makes me stressed as I realise yet again that human are cheating scumbags with no respect for rules or fair play. Snooze
Also - it's worth thinking about getting a force-feedback steering wheel to play it with too - the force feedback is quite well implemented so you get a really good feel for the grip that you get. No way. I play games so rarely that if I can't play with keys or mouse then I don't bother.
