xeno
My MIL lit up while driving the other day. First time it's happened since owning the car. I searched these forums to see what the procedure is. I've located the diagnostics port in the engine bay, and noticed that the brake fluid was low, just above the min mark, but then I noticed another brake fluid tank, also low. Which one do you fill? Or is it both? I've not had time while it's been light enough to do the paperclip test yet, so don't have the codes, but I need to top up the brake fluid anyway, and have read on here that that can trigger the MIL light. Thanks for any advice.
Jake
There's only one brake fluid reservoir. Where was this other one you found?
xeno
hehe.. It was about 10 inches to the right of the bigger one, Looking from the front of the engine bay. I'll see if I can get some pics in a minute. I'm sure they both said brake fluid on them. I feel I'm going to look really silly, when it turns out to be something else. That'll be the clutch master cylinder
xeno
Yes it a manual. The weird thing is both caps say brake fluid, do they both use the same juice? Shall I get my coat yet? Thanks.
Jake
Yeah, if you look on most any bottle of brake fluid it says "Brake and Clutch Fluid"
xeno
Here's the two pics. These camera phones are great. It's pitch black outside, the car is on my driveway and the pics actually came out ok.
xeno
Cheers Jake. Can I be official club muppet? If I had engaged my brain a bit, I would have realized that it was the clutch fluid. Dooh.
Jake
No probs mate. Anyway, just top the plastic brake fluid reservoir up a bit and it'll almost certainly stop that MIL light from coming on.
