Jake
I've never seen Kubrick's 'masterpiece' before. Always meant to see it some time but never have before now. Is it just me or is it total cobblers? And what's Charlie from Lost doing in it? Surely he wasn't ever born then.
marbleapple
I think there are a lot of films like that. Apocalypse Now is a good example too.

marbleapple
Did you ever see Eyes Wide Shut? WTF was that all about? I just liked Kidman naked (Am I thinking of the right film?) Speilberg is my favourite director.... Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers... the list goes on and on.

carl0s
I've caught it on TV twice I think now, and I find it quite involving, in a weird frightening what-if sort of way. It's interesting to hear the guy going on with himself too.
ivan
It was great in it's day. I saw it at the flicks - when it first came out.
Jake
In which country? Edit to add: Ooops, I always thought it was banned in the UK. Dunno where I got that idea from, seems it was never actually banned. My mistake.
Rob
Steven Spielberg directed Band Of Brothers? Don't be surprised, you think Kubrick directed Apocalypse Now!!! Philistines, the lot of you! (flounces out of room)

Charlotte
LOL, good old FFC, loved Lost in Translation Famed more for The Godfather films although Lost in Translation was his daughter - and he didn't do Jeepers Creepers either? Maybe Jake was confusing it with Full Metal Jacket?
ivan
Here in UK. It certainly wasn't banned.
Burna
Didn't he remove the film from cinemas for some reason?
Jake
Didn't he remove the film from cinemas for some reason? Yeah, seems it wasn't banned but was withdrawn at Kubrick's request after death threats were made to him and his family. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Clockwork_Orange_(film)#British_withdrawal
Todd
Lost in Translation was his daughter - and he didn't do Jeepers Creepers either? ? He was the executive producer on all the above films
Charlotte
He was the executive producer on all the above films Slightly different from directing.
stevie_b
I didn't "get" Clockwork Orange either. It doesn't seem to have much of a hidden meaning behind it, which sometimes redeems other films. Agree with comments about Apocolypse Now as well. A few clever camera effects (helicopter blades ceiling fan), but that's about it. Has anyone here seen those 5-second films knocking around on YouTube? Both Clockwork Orange and Apoc. Now would be good candidates for it, if they haven't already been done. lexsum
Clockwork Orange is a brilliant book and a great film. It is of its time in many respects so when viewed in context ie before action films/ultraviolence were a main staple of cinema it was shocking in this respect. The story is of course not about violent gang culture but about freedom of choice versus state intervention. It is a warning against state control of the mind and still holds true. marbleapple
Don't be surprised, you think Kubrick directed Apocalypse Now!!! Philistines, the lot of you! (flounces out of room) No one said Kubrick directed it, just that it was another crap film viewed by many as a classic. Steven Spielberg directed Band Of Brothers? So it states on the front cover: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Band-Brothers-Complete-HBO-Disc/dp/B00005UP86/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/203-0795364-8803926?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1194448047&sr=8-

marbleapple
Your favourite director and you only know because of the front cover? LOL To be honest if you look at Amazon, it doesn't mention him as one of the directors, although it does on the box. Only way I could think to prove to Jake that he did direct it. I love all types of films, I just find the Speilberg ones are usually superb. For example, The first 15min of Saving Private Ryan could teach most people about the horrors of WW2 more than any story book ever could. I tell you one film this year that should have done much better than it did: transformers..... It's a great film.
