supracharged
after some 'spirtited' driveing (and 70k miles) my clutch is no more. i pulled away quite hard the other day and it just slipped for a second before biting, now in 4th, 5th & 6th when i put my foot slightly down i get very little drive or acceleration. now, i have read just about every clutch thread in the forum search (i realy have) i think i have decided on one of the RPS max spring6puk clutches. (i have a BPU 98 VVTI TT 6 speed manual with around 420 BHP) anyway whilst im doing this, is there anything else i should do, im thinking maybe- check/change flywheel bolts or Lighter flywheel all together(RPS / TRD / TOMS) Change clutch release bearing Replace gearbox oil seals - as one of mine is leaking is there anything else i should do??? foodfreak
A puck clutch can be very 'grabby'. ( been there, Done that ) The RPS street max would probably suit you better. My street max has lasted for 12K miles so far & I do a LOT of 'town' driving. Don't get a lightned flywheel, they rattle horribly. keep to stock John
n boost
Yeh, don't get the flywheel if u can't bear the rattle. I have fidanza one and have never looked back as the response overweighs the noise for me. Also replace your spigot bearing as that can make a noise and cause problems if worn ( only cost a pound or two).
supracharged
does an uprated flywheel really make that much noise then? id like it to be a bit more responsive, what causes the rattle? - is it drive shaft taking up the slack in the rear diff? what clutch do you use john? i dont do much town driving anymore, and i do give my clutch a hard time so didnt want to buy one a have it break to soon. thanks for the advice by the way
foodfreak
I have the RPS street max considering I do approx. 300 miles a week ( mainly in town/ traffic) it's lasted very well.
kylestt
RPS is a great product and as mentioned, avoid the lighter flywheel if you dont like the chatter. It will also become "grabby" so to speak. The engagement point will be very very fine line with a lighter flywheel. RPS +

n boost
I use a Helix cerametallic 5 puck clutch. Have used this for last 2 years with fidanza flywheel. My last disk give me over 10k with hard use and when removed had a few thousand miles left. Helix will repaddle the disk for around £50 so works out cheap when replacing disk. supracharged
thanks for the advice people. i think ill stay stock with the flywheel then (maybe!) seems as the RPS street max has lasted on your car john i think itll be ok on mine;) just worried ill destroy it in 12 months or so. Hiya, it sounds like your giving this a go yourself, if you happen not too I can highly recommened Scott of nexus performance, nexuspro.co.uk, he's in southend and does all the work on my cars i caught your last thread about this place tom and was thinking of giving them a try, as they are local and i seem to be modding the car quite a bit recently:d ( i like where i go now however) cheers warren
Paul Whiffin
Definately RPS street max. We run one in Steve Linton's Time Attack car and its still going strong. http://www.whifbitz.co.uk/stevelsmotor.htm While the box is out change the release bearing, if you have oil leaks prop/ gearshift seal along with pilot bearing as well. foodfreak
Hi Warren, you've been quiet lately:D if your current clutch is slipping now get it changed quickly or else you'll bugger the flywheel & need a new one. As Paul said, change the release bearing AND check the bearing carrier for play on the input shaft. At my last clutch change, the carrier was worn enough to make engagement difficult John
Paul Whiffin
Oh and check the stock dual mass flywheel as well while your there to make sure its within tolerance.

Its only ive been experiencing some some strange noises (Very faint but noticeable from outside the car when i push down the clutch to change gear! The clutch biting point is very good so i cant see the clutch being the problem but i really want to find out whats wrong!
Sparky
Oh and check the stock dual mass flywheel as well while your there to make sure its within tolerance. Same with the flywheel. How would i go about finding out if its faulty once its been taken out? lol

Paul Whiffin
Same with the flywheel. How would i go about finding out if its faulty once its been taken out? lol You would need to measure the freeplay of the flywheel damper, max is 105mm

Ta been under the car now, to get a closer look at it all and it seems i have an oil seal leak on the gearbox to get sorted as well. im going to go with the RPS street max clutch after all the advice it sounds like the one for me. exoect a phone call soon paul:d thanks for the advice all!
