Pulling hair out!

Hi guys still no luck-

Checked out the TPS (replaced) still no joy!

Took it to a garage today guy thinks its the ECU and wants to replace it at a cost of £500-600 (shit)-

Not convinced my self- His argument for replacing the ECU is that the rev counter occasionally shoots up to rev 4 with out engine spinning up. So 'it ECU related' -

This is really making my hair go grey, as it’s a pain not having a car over XMAS.

The symptoms

Stalling/hesitation on throttle accompanied by a click (electrical)

Car cold--revs rise up and down- up and down continuously when fired up

Auto gearbox has become cluck through gear changes.

rev counter occasionally shoots up to rev 4 with out engine spinning up

It’s not the TPS as I have replaced that.

Cant get to the ISCV/ ICV as a screw is right down by the engine!

I have it booked in at TOYOTA for Thursday- Ill have to pay £78 p/h for someone who really doesn’t know what they are looking for.

The Rev counter thing is really worrying me as it flutters around without the engine spinning- What could cause this?

The strange thing is that things calm down when the TPS is unplugged hence the replacement part.

Is the next likely cause the ISCV?

Help if you can

Thanks guys-

Just out of general interest, where abouts is planet water?

If its somewhere near Bristol then I would be happy to take out my ecu and let you try it in yours to see if that helps, should give a little more power as it came with some wierd little mines stamp on it!

Could be a dodgy ground somewhere maybe as it sounds like crazy electrical behaviour and that's usually the culprit for that sort of thing. I should check the ground connection at the battery and that you haven't got any other dodgy grounds on any electrical gubbins wired to the ECU. Worth a look anyway.

CHEERS 'STT' for the offer I am in London, a bit far- thanks anyway

Ill check the ground connections tomorrow.

Anyone know where the speed sensor is?

Just find it odd that the funny electrical behaviour stops when the TPS is unplugged although it stills stalls.

Is an ECU a straight unplug plug swap?

Cheers

Right-

Car in toyota at mo.

They think it might be an overfuelling issue. From the above problems do you guys think this could be my problem.

Could a dodgy 0xygen sensor cause an over feulling issue.

Another problem that recenty occured is that it doen't start. Toyota say this was due to the engine flooding?
