Marty
Theres a few gaming pc threads banging about at the moment. So heres mine. I've been using a P4 2.99ghz with 2gb ram for years and years, decided its time to upgrade as my pc is starting to struggle with some of the new games. So heres my new spec... (including prices of what i paid, inc delivery etc) Intel Core Duo Extreme x6800 2.93Ghz (£230) Cruicial Ballistix Ram 2 x 1Gb (£56) Abit Ip35Pro Motherboard (£105) Tunic Tower 120 Cpu Cooler (£35) 2x Samsung 500gb 16mb Hard Drives (£56 ea) EVGA 7950 GX2 1gb Graphics Card (already owned) Thermaltake 750w Psu (£70) Antec 900 Gaming Case (£70) 20x Dvd Rw (£18) Windows Xp Pro (£60) Heres a few pics of what it looks like at the mo, the fans glow up blue when its on so looks nice The fan at the top is HUGE so it should have no probs keeping the pc cool, as is the tunic tower cpu cooler (about 5mm clearance from lid) Im waiting on my copy of xp to arrive so i cant do any overclocking of cpu or graphics card etc yet, so i can get some good benchmarks, but im hoping it should do quite well. Im sticking with my 7950 gx2 for now as they are pretty sh*t hot cards and beat the 8800s in a few tests. If i do upgrade i may get another and use they in SLI. I just need to tidy up the cables a bit but am waiting on some funky looking ties off ebay Its my 1st time building a pc so if ive done owt wrong someone let me know

Marty
Only 2Gb? For now, cant see why id need more than that to be honest, im going to be using it for mainly gaming etc, not too bothered about burning dvds etc whilst playing with a photo on photoshop

DamanC
Im suprised you paid all that for a x6800 when you plan on OCing it anyway. Just got to change the GPU after the rest of the 8800's are out

garetheves
Must admit ive been thinking of building a new one for myself recently. Used to think mine was pretty beefy until i started playing LOTRO and it lags like crazy in places. Then when i thought about it i did build it about 2 years ago which is a fairly long time in a Computers life. Plus it only has 1gig of RAM. I was thinking of a budget of £500 for new MB, CPU, RAM, GFX is that realistic?? My HDDs and PSU should be up to the task, could do with a nice new case and all the relevant cooling though. China Man
Same case as mine I have 2x500GB Hd as well but I am running raid 0 on them Unless running vista or else 2GB is good enough I would get a faster display card if you like all setting to max on LCD screen

Ive always been a fan of ASUS MBs, do they do something similar and how would it compare to the Gigabyte one. Ill do a bit of googling on the spec of that one for the features. Where did you get those prices from also??
T11MNM
Looks cool, just make sure you have an intake and exhaust fan otherwise it might run a bit hot
Marty
Ive got a PS3 and a Wii Me too Im suprised you paid all that for a x6800 when you plan on OCing it anyway. Thats the whole point of the extreme chips though isnt it? for big overclocking?! i thought i got a bit of a bargain with this chip considering it is still £599 on scan My friend has one and he is running 3.7ghz on it, on a thermaltake 120 heatsink. Same case as mine I have 2x500GB Hd as well but I am running raid 0 on them Unless running vista or else 2GB is good enough I would get a faster display card if you like all setting to max on LCD screen Great case's, perfect for gaming, im well impressed with the cooling I may raid mine too Im going to stick with my graphics card at the mo, they were the bogs dollocks a year back (£410 to buy) and i got a 3d 06 score of 8000 using it on my poor 3ghz 2gb ram system. If i dont get much more on this system then i may think about upgrading Looks cool, just make sure you have an intake and exhaust fan otherwise it might run a bit hot It has enough fans matey 2 in the front, one HUGE one (200mm) at the top, and one in the back. All come with adjustable speed controllers, inc the cpu cooler, which has a fan in too
T11MNM
It might have plenty of fans but you need a way of getting rid of the hot air generated rather than just blowing cool air on it. So have one fan blowing air into the case and one extracting the warm air, it also creates a flow of cool air through the case. All you need to do is reverse one fan so it sucks rather than blows. My 2p anyway

My 2p anyway I probably didnt explain my last post very well They aren't all intake fans..jee.. they would be a pretty poor design for a case!! The top 200mm fan is an exhaust fan, aswel as the one in the rear. The two front ones are intake fans. Thanks for the concern though

Where did you get those prices from also?? I would recomend the ASUS P5KC AiLifestyle Series iP35 then. It was a toss up between the two for me. I picked the GB one due to the asus one having memory compatability issues and I didnt like where the IDE slot was mounted. The prices were off the top of my head, shop around and you should find similar

Mines and and running now, with tidy cables pics to follow when i install my bluetooth drivers Looks great, the cpu is running 3.08Ghz with no overclocking so its a good'un . Just downloading 3d mark at mo to see how it does. Edited.... Got a tad under 10k on the 3d mark, with standard settings, am going to see what a bit of overclocking to cpu, gpu and ram does Right, So i have some extra cash, and was thinking about getting a new graphics card.... What would you guys get? I was thinking of maybe ....this?
