Guest Terry S
Here we go again, US power claims. I had THE Wildest hybrids, HKS Tyre R intercooler, Additional Injectors, HKS Cams, Electric Fans, Lightweight pullies, etc etc... & it only just made 500 on race fuel. I would never achieve this on the road for a sustained period. The thing was damn quick & the hybrid's kick like a mule when #2 comes on line. Just don't get too carried away by the BPU+ power claims. I think Alex covered it pretty well myself.
Guest Terry S
OK Paul let's put it into persepctive SP Turbo KIT $5800 Includes everything even BOV Fuel system $2200 inc new pumps Intercooler $1500 Clutch $600 - $1000 ECU upgrade $2000 -$5000 ( only necessary if you want the car to run properly!) Therefore at the least $12500 or £8333 The shipping & Duty say £2000 ( maybe less depending on how friendly the shipper is) Fitting $2500 Mapping ECU £1200 ( properly!) Grand total of £14,033 Now a lot of you may think this is OTT but believe me it's not for doing it properly.
GavinL
Originally posted by Syed Shah Well, theoretically, with 20% drivtrain losses, it would make the car around 390bhp. Add stage III hybrids, and this would be around 507bhp or around 406 at the wheels, and their car is not ever full BPU (FMIC etc). I have a problem with fixed percentage drive train losses. I can't help but think they muddy the water and we should really only talk about RWHP as per the US. My one and only dyno run shows transmission losses of 23 HP at the dyno's max rating of 305 RWHP which is a long way from the 15-17% cited for a six speed car. Adam W
Surely the best part of an upgrade like that would be fitting it yourself? Rather than spend £2.5k getting it fitted, bring the whole lot to my place, I'll bolt it up just for the fun of it, than you can pay someone £500 to check I haven't made a cock up! Sure, pay a mechanic to do the boring stuff like oil changes if you want, but I reckon you don't fully appreciate your car until you've had it in a thousand pieces and put it back together again. It's a joyous occasion when it fires up and doesn't explode or anything! Kinda like when your first child is born I would imagine . . . At the end of the day the RWHP is the figure that determines how quickly you will get from A to B, the engine output figure is more of a pub talk or engine designers figure. From all the techniques i've heard of determining drive train loss, i'm not convinced that any of them are more accurate guesses than the others. As long as people have a fair idea of the comparative losses i.e. 4WD has more loss than 2WD, auto's more than manuals, then that should be enough. All IMHO. Guest Terry S
The turbo kits are not easy to fit. You may live to regret offering that. The turbo kit would probaly cost £1000+ to put on. the other money was for fitting the fuel system, ecu, fmic etc.
Adam W
Well, maybe it wouldn't be the "done thing" to have a first attempt on someone elses car, but when it comes down to it,. it's just nuts and bolts and wiggling stuff until it fits. No real mystery to it, you just need nine inch ratchet fingers, 360 degree wrists, and five arms with reversible elbow joints!
Guest Terry S
LOL! Those manifold nuts are a Bast*rd at the best of times. Putting a complicated single manifold on is a Bastard. Probably best to take the engine out ( No Joke!)

The point I was trying to make, is that we could source good quality stuff locally. I have a great fabricator who helped me build up my previous car, and we can make pretty much anything for the intercooler, exhaust, fuel system, he even has his own design BOVs and wastegates for a fraction of the "big name" components. These things all do the same job, for a lot less money. Well I guess the proof would be build all the components up on my own car, but right now I am not wanting to spend a lot on the Supra. I spent a huge amount of cash on my Celica and, having learnt some lessons, am targetting very inexpensive but effective mods. Still, if anyone is interested in getting something custom built up, let me know.

And those manifold nuts... I've swapped my turbos over from stock J's to hybrids, and taken the hybrids off again in order to put them on *properly*, and the #2 turbo lower manifold stud is the only car-related thing that has ever gotten close to making my cry with frustration. I would have thought a big single would free up loads of elbow space and therefore be easier And you missed something in the line "it's just nuts and bolts and wiggling stuff until it fits". Swearing. Laaaarge amounts of swearing. -Ian
Adam W
Oh yes. I think my next door neighbours learnt a few new words while I was putting mine back together last week. "You sodding bolt, you can just *&$% the £%^^ing %&$^ buggering $*&& bandit !$!*$$ toss piece arse &$$^% and **** it you little *£^!, then !£$% until the handle breaks off and you have to call a doctor to pull it out again!" I love it really
Rich J
Here we go again, US power claims. I think people have to remember that the guys in the US think it's fine to quote they're rwhp from a dyno run they've done with 110ron fuel and the car running at 25psi!!! Once they get them on the road running standard fuel and sensible boost their high dyno numbers are worthless on the street.
