Ewen
Unbelievable. I have issues with JWs for personal reasons, but this is just so sad. "Paul Gillies, a spokesman for Jehovah's Witnesses in Britain, explained how members of the faith believe blood transfusions are prohibited by certain Biblical passages" They really are completely mad. michael
Surely there comes a point when most sane people think "I'd be better off alive and without religion just so that I can care for my children", a tragic story.

Alex
Ahh but you see God; A) Works in mysterious ways B) Has a higher purpose for her C) Wanted to make a sacrifice to take away our sins.... or some such toss like that, I'm SURE all the religious nuts can make the invisible pink unicorn* or the spaghetti monster's* ways fully justified, in letting a 22 year old who clearly needed medical and mental help, die. *Look 'em up on Wiki

Ewen
She should have read this first http://www.ajwrb.org/basics/abstain.shtml Her husband should have read it first. Her local Watchtower rep should have printed it off and put it through every JW door. She would probably still be alive AND under the wing of Jehova God. Or they could just let God decide, after all, he is ALL powerful and surely would have let them know if they should give her a transfusion....or maybe he'd miraculously heal her... I'd say this was actually a positive for the gene pool....but she did manage to give birth just before hand.

Charlotte
I think those children will grow up to be very bitter indeed. What is the point of advances in medicine when people still insist on dying like it's 1920.
jamesmark
Just like all religions people get brain washed into believing a load of rubbish. Michaels comment was spot on.

Pete
Just like all religions people get brain washed into believing a load of rubbish. That's your opinion. Theirs was quite different. That's the funny thing about belief. In a funny way I kind of admire the strength of people who are willing to die for their beliefs. Charlotte
I'd like to know at what point do the doctors say, she will die, I mean do they consult the family first?

Those children will most likely be brainwashed by then and be eternally grateful to their dad for ensuring their mum got to heaven. Oh wait, the 144,000 places have already been taken many times over....silly dad. BTW, another one of many silly JW rules... You are discouraged from buying a two door car-A "Theocratic" or "spiritually strong" Jehovah's Witness will have a full size car for the door to door work
RedM
71. Women must submit to Watchtower elders That's the real clincher.

Mrs H
Totally selfish, the needs of your children should come before your opinions or beliefs. What would happen if it was one of the kids who needed the transfusion, would they have let the child die for the sake of their beliefs? I really can't get my head around this:search: Vicki x
Ewen
Heres one of the little buggers... ‘And any man from the house of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, who eats any blood, I will set My face against that person who eats blood, and will cut him off from among his people’ Leviticus 17:10 Eating / partaking of blood...transfusions apart, the fatal flaw in this interpretation is childbirth, or more specifically, the foetus receiving / exchanging blood via the umbilical cord and mothers placenta. Explain that one Big Jez.

Pete
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article1426576.ece That article raises way too many morale and ethical questions, far more than my head can handle this morning. What about the Spartans then? Now they were cruel to their new borns.
michael
The docs should just do the work and not tell them, person survives and nobody except the medical team knows any better - whip out a kidney to sell on while you are there, it's all fine.
