Konrad
My friend is lurking around idea of buying NA Supra or Datsun 280ZX, my question is directed to all 18 - 20 years old guys out here - where the hell you are insured and how much is it? I called A-Plan in Thatcham and they said no chance for jap imports till 23 and Datsun would cost around 2k lol. So young chaps, go out from the woods and admit, how much you are paying
jazz1
well now rules have changed im 22 with a tt moded facelift and i just payed 1960 with adrian flux but thats on 2,000 miles a year, no other company would touch me and if they did they would quote me 6k,8k etc. It all changing now they are not insuring the young guys on these cars no more unless your over 30 or
hoff
Id try Adrian Flux. But try sky also, if hes got sone NCB and no points they should be able to get a quote on an NA. Also bell or elepant. This is just off the top of my head from previous threads.
Ady
im 24 and with elephant paying 775 odd quid a year - on 6k miles a year have a good shop around and youll find a good quote
jazz1
sky wont touch him currently due to their change of rules on age restrictions, adrian flux is worth a try they were the cheapest for me as i tryed everywhere

danhicks22
I'm 23, driving 2 years with 1 years ncb and have been quoted about £1350 on unmodified imported TT for 10 month bonus accelerator with Bell (+20% on price for full year). Sky wouldn't insure me with no previous experience of powerful cars. Waiting to hear from A-Plan and will be contacting Adrian Flux soon. For young drivers, I think in general Bell are best from the Admiral/Bell/Elephant group (all same company).
michael
I'm 19, 16 points, car parked on road in Beeston, single kit etc - I pay £23.38 through Gombarno Bongo Insurance. YMMV
Guest RickTT
bottom line a 20yr doesnt stand a chance of insuring a import supra n/a or not. best bet is to try a uk tt which you can insure for around 1300 - 1800 however bare in mind the car will cost a fair bit extra in the 9k-10k+ area I'm 19, 16 points, car parked on road in Beeston, single kit etc - I pay £23.38 through Gombarno Bongo Insurance. I cant figure this out
hoff
They think as its a Jap car not uk parts are more expensive etc. I think.

I cant figure this out Do UK's have less power all of a sudden? They cost more because there are ~600 of them (probably a lot less now) vs ~39574327433290428094292 J-Spec examples. Guest RickTT
i guess they are more desireable, rarer and cheaper to insure, and they are generally better speced (leather, big brakes ect) i also never heard they are less powerful - the uk's turbos spool up slower due to the weight but thats all i've read
jazz1
i dont understand why the uk spec is cheaper to insure, dont make sense seeing they are known to be faster than a j-spec:search:
danhicks22
Disagree - I think Elephant - always been cheepest for me and i have been with them for 5 years now Interesting - I've done quite a few quotes with both for various cars and Bell have always been cheaper for me I don't even try to understand insurance any more anyway - Bell quoted me ~£700 on a 1993 diesel Pug 106 and £850 on a UK TT Supra. Makes perfect sense.

Guest RickTT
i guess its always worth a try - looked around for ages before i found a good quote (now i just have to find a bloody car) elephant were the best for me (not tried bell yet) Edit: just tried bell - exact same as elephant
Pete
Why not try Classic Insurance on the 280ZX?

Aaron-SWR
I'm insured with Sky, just over 2000 a year.. I dont think you can get classic car insurance unless you're over 25 can you?
juanchan
i dont understand why the uk spec is cheaper to insure, dont make sense seeing they are known to be faster than a j-spec:search: Really? J-specs are lighter than UK cars, and the ceramic turbos spool slightly sooner than UK steel ones. At Supra Pod back in April, Henk beat me in about 8 out of 9 runs in his stock GZ. I always thought that imported cars cost more to insure as sometimes you can only get replacement parts direct from the country of origin, making repairs more costly etc. They obviously don't take the actual car into consideration, as most parts are identical between UK and J-spec Supras.
