Guigsy
Apparently the vvti has more torque. which is nice. but on the other had they are harder to tune due to more complex ecu's.... so ive been told
Carl_S
Got you mate just read up on it. This car has TOMS Racing ECU, not sure if thats just a map or an actual new physical ECU, and hear that this will mean that it can hold max revs.. (is that right) not sure whether its 2x8 bit though or if thats makes a difference, or if only VVTI's are the only supras to have 2x16 bit ecu's? But yeah your right, I like the car. And since its got hybrids twins, and I have *felt* the power first bum, then maybe no one could convice me to buy something else. Guigsy
dunno about the Toms ecu' sbut ive seen a few Mines runits about. they sound similar and just have raised rev limits. A bit pointless and risky if u ask me.
Nic
The TOMS ECU removes speed cut, raises fuel cut and has a more performance biased fuel and ignition mapping. I would get the fueling checked out on a dyno though, as it will have been set up for Japanese fuel which is higher RON than UK.

Carl VVTi's do indeed have a more advanced ECU (Read a right BIIIAAATCH to play with, but it is doable), but I'm getting rid of mine anyway (ECU that is)... Carl_S
Thanks guys thats really helpful - good to read up that TOMS Ecu is a good bit of kit. Of course I wonder how a bit of electronics could physically make it safe to go to the end of the rev counter and stay there... surely is does not eliminate the mechanical problems associated with driving at max revs in first second or third, it just helps the car keep power and be short term very fast? Just guessing here. Anyway. Will pick up the car tomorrow and driving it down south. lol. I know it's not, but I feel like im bringing a national treasure to southern England. Lol. michael
Thanks guys thats really helpful - good to read up that TOMS Ecu is a good bit of kit. Where did you read that?
Carl_S
See homers post just above. Oh and my wonderings is due to my limited understanding - I dont get how it works - being very newbie. My musings are not to do with what I read, its just doubts I already had.
michael
See homers post just above. Yeah I saw that, hence the question asking where the good review could be found
Carl_S
hahaha, it's true. My inexperience here thinks that that review is a positive thing - due to TOM's ecu appearing to make the car more powerful and responsive with proper boost control, and fuel mapping (perhaps?). Nic seems to be very postive about it, and I see he has posted a lot , so for me I trust him more. And the rest of the thread seems to culminate in a throng of people asking where they can get hold of one. Throng,, well maybe 1. But it seems positive to me, are you less postive about it, and why? Or if you don't want to reply, where can I find the flipside to all this apparent positivity? Carl
Nic
The TOMS ECU removes speed cut, raises fuel cut and has a more performance biased fuel and ignition mapping. I would get the fueling checked out on a dyno though, as it will have been set up for Japanese fuel which is higher RON than UK. I tested a TOMS ECU in my car a few years ago, it did make a noticeable difference in performance. My only worry would be whether the fuel and timing map would be okay on UK fuel, which is why I advised to get it checked out. Here is the review I posted after the test. http://mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=3381
Carl_S
Just driven the car back. It is mind blowing. Very fun to drive, and very stable. Only thing on the way back, I clipped a speed bump when turning into it at the start of my road, and that despite already going very slow. Going to see if there are any physical measures I can take to make this less of a problem - whether it means modding the front splitter or getting metal shoes underneath for the bump to scrape against if it wants. And in the mean time. Ill just have to avoid the bump, or find new angles to attack it. A downer on an otherwise excellent drive back.
