M4RK RZ
Hi chaps - So im just about to get a HID kit form ebay still deciding on seller tho. going for 6000K 9005 HB3 now.. I want to do all the nights (not fussed about fogs tho) Side lights x4 and full beam half beam. Do I have to buy the extra bulbs - do I run these thro the balasts? and if so do you splice in or is there a certain balast to get with extra outs? Or do I go LED white side bulbs? Suggestions on kits please
Nic
Mark, you will need 2 x HID kits (bulbs and ballasts) for the dip beam and main beam. So in total you'll need 4 ballasts and 4 bulbs. If you have J-spec headlights you need 2 x 9005/HB3 kits, they will be a straight fit without any modifying. For the side lights I would use LED's. I can supply HID kits for £115 including postage
jamesmark
Never heard of splicing HID's. I would buy 2 kits (4 ballasts and 4 bulbs). Sidelights with be £3.99 led bulbs and not HID.

You can't splice 2 bulbs onto 1 ballast, it won't work, each bulb needs a specific voltage/amps to work.

Jake
Can anyone recommend specific bulbs for fog and facelift sidelights that are a good match for HID dipped and highbeam? Mine look really yellow and crap compared to the HIDs Thanks
Jake
I'll take that as a 'no' then shall I?
jamesmark
I found that the blue coloured bulbs were the best for sidelights, but it is getting the right amount of blue correct so that it is not actually blue when they are on. Why not go for HID's in the fogs Jake? it is just a small mod I believe, I think Uk_Rich has foglight HID's.
Markie
Christ HID stuff sounds like a mine field. How can you check what you have got? Sorry for Hi-Jack.
jamesmark
It tells you on the bulb, well mine did anyway the size was stamped and the temp was sprayed in white.
Markie
Its just the normal headlights are HID though right? Cause mine looks like main beam are normal.
jamesmark
HID are brighter than normal bulbs, you will have to have a ballast to power them. Is that what you mean?
Markie
I know my main beams are HID because they have that flicker when turning on and a blue tint to them. But just wondering if the main beam on cars are HID also or are they normal style like bulbs.
jamesmark
Yes they are normal style, my personal opinion is that it pointless for full beams to be HID unless you really do a lot of night driving, you will not be able to flash people because of the delay in them warming up. Do the fogs, it requires you to mod it a little, there is a thread.
