ok i had my dog chipped not so long ago but iv been noticing hes not been the same he keeps moaning as if theres something in his left ear and spends most the day sleeping. If i go to touch and massage his ear its as if hes got something stuck in there and all i can hear in like a clicking noise when i shake his ear, as its not the same on the other ear. Could this be down to the chip? i did call them and they said it no way can be the chip as its on the kneck(battersea dogs home did it), could it be a sign of ear mites? i will get him checked on tuesday, but some vet help would be nice?

There is a vet on here. StevieKid.

My question would be what does his ears LOOK like inside? What kind of dog is it? What do his ears smell like?

Feel his scruff carefully for the chip, I can just about find my boys but it takes a while. If you find it then you know it's there. I would have thought if the chip was causing an issue you would have had problems in that area. Also if you say it's both ears then it can't be the chip moving unless it's broken up. Can't imagie that is the case.

Most dogs as far a I am aware are chipped with no problems.

Quote from a reputable breeder and show winner on the subject:

They migrate full stop, not just big dogs.

We did a study at ringcraft and over 50% of the dogs had got migrated chips.

Rocky's is in his front leg and will eventually drop out - unless I had access to a scanner I would not know this and blindly assume he had permanent ID.

My friend found her dogs chip on the floor - about 8 months after chipping.

They were supposedly improving the chips but I am still hearing of them migrating all over

AND some of the HUGE rescues still do not scan.

I'd be amazed if it was the chip. They can migrate but usually only when they're put into a very young puppy. It's far more likely he's just got an ear infection/mites/haematoma. As supragal said, compare both ears on the inside. :)

I personally wouldn't be trying medicine you've got from somewhere that's not a vet. You have no idea what you are treating, ears aren't worth taking the chance with. Think how close the are to the brain, you do not want an infection left there.

Seriously. Compare the 2 ears. Colour, temperature, smell.

I had my horse chipped about fives years ago and I’m convinced that the chip caused behaviour problems in him. He has all ways been calm what ever type and after having the chip in he was a horse from hell for nearly 2 weeks, and then just over night he was back to his old self again. I couldn’t touch he’s neck where the chip was for a while either. He may be just feeling a bit unsure of a foreign body inside him.

Always best to get him checked if in doubt :)

I'm surprised Tesco took you on, they're reet bastards with older dogs. Waiting three weeks is piss poor though matey, start taking better care of your dog. Battersea rehome these dogs so they can have a BETTER life.
