Pete
Just got in from a 16 hour day, started at 08:00 and had no breaks. Knackered. Got me thinking that I guess there's other jobs where this is the norm for people. (Doctors?) What's the longest day you've worked?
Ian W
start at 7:30, got home at seven.....11 and a half hours for me then.

juanchan
Started at 8 today, finished about five past 1 I don't think ever come close to a 16 hour day. I'd be beyond knackered.

jamesmark
When I worked on GNER, I was down as a relief, start at 5.30am and if no one calls in sick I get to go home at 11.30 but got paid for full day, low and behold someone called in sick so I was on the 12.30 to London and the 18.00 back to Edinburgh same day. It was also the middle of winter with high winds and 2 trains in front got its pantagragh ripped off so we were 10 hours delayed, we sat 6 hours outside Peterborough and got in Edinburgh @ 8.00 am next morning. In total a 26.5 hour shift.
Ewen
Cant compete with that lot:blink: I do a ten hour day on average, but with a wee break at lunch. 12 hours quite often, but only if its on something I've got my teeth into. Contracted for a 35 hr week, the rest is for the love of the job / ludicrous schedules (depends on who I'm talking to). I would imagine Tony (TLicence) would have some horror stories. Stevie Boy
Funny you should mention this, i'm due to start a painfull new shift system as of Monday next week. Used to work 4days on 4days off 7:00-19:00 inc Sat's and Sun's. Due to a shortfall in miscalculated labour hrs used to put our budget together, where the handful of us guy's on shift and the "norm" 8-5.30 guy's at my work, we're now needed to put more hrs in. One plus side is they've pulled the plug on doing Sundays, though has made it even harder for us to come up with a new revolving shift and to fit in all the hrs, between 8 of us on 2 shifts of 4 techie's. So no more Sundays for me yeay! But as of Monday it's 6:30-19:30 Mon-Sat with a 45min lunch break so can fit mornin 15min tea break in, so i'll be at work for 13hrs for 6days on the trot, gonna be a killer for me anyway.......... What should I be looking forward to though is it's then 8days off Sun-Sun then back on shift , though also expected to come in a further 23days on off days over the course of the year covering anyone who's off, not too bad though with 22days hols a year still. JamesG
My previous job was as a Playstation games programmer. A couple of times coming up to deadlines, I worked over 24 hours solid. Fortunately, I'm wiser now and wouldn't dream of doing it again!

ivan
I did a 38 hour straight stint on radio watch when I was in the Army. I was so ratty at the end the OI/C had to physically chuck me out to get my head down.
Todd
Trawlerman, didn't work hours, just days! Hard graft but great life, been office bound for a few years now and i'll never get my head round the back stabbing and politics, rather be back on a boat. jamesmark
i'll never get my head round the back stabbing and politics, rather be back on a boat. I know what you mean, working in British Gas is unreal with the back stabbing. I just use the easy fix, I just find a reason to get them out the door or I manage them out. Soonto_HAS_soop
37 hours for me, started at 06:00hrs worked through till 19:00hrs the next day. Only break I had was 30 minutes to go home for a shower and 45 minutes to pop down the gym. This was introducing a new Nissan product into production for the 1st Tier company I used to work for. Havard
When I served my apprenticeship when had a spell every summer where we did 3 - 4 weeks where no one was allowed holidays and we worked 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. After 28 days of solid hard graft I went off sick with exhaustion. I was dizzy and could hardly stand up...... Now 16 years later I wouldn't dream of being exploited like that. I am upset if I have to to do 12 hours a week! H.
